An actual mister comes in handy for mounted specimens, just an fyi!

Soak them in fertilized water weekly, and be prepared to mist daily, and depending on how dry your climate is, prepare to mist HEAVILY, every other day.

That looks great! I have a tree fern mounted h. pauciflora, and it dries out real quick. It's been about 2 months since I got it I think, and it's started growing new leaves and growth points. Only downside is the increase of water frequency, so i placed mine in a basket of long fibered sphagnum moss.

1. Personally, id keep the trailing vine, which I did with my pauciflora. I just like that look.

2. Wouldn't it be better to start them in a standard mix, then once established, take cuttings of those to experiment with on mounts? Just what I would do since I'm not good about watering regularly.

I have a tank and UV lights... I could try and keep them in a terrarium set up. But I may just attempt the extra misting/soaking care for awhile to see how it goes. :/ What kind of orchids do you have mounted, aurora? A million different kinds? LOL I've just started keeping Phals because of all the coarse bark I have left over from my soilless mix.

I have my cattleya, LC, and vanda mounted on cork bark.

I have my stanhopea also mounted, but in NZ sphag moss, stuffed in an old suet cake bird feeder.

Thank you Christian! I like the look of the trailing vine, as well... But it's the only portion I have... I guess I shouldn't be too greedy. :) I have tons of the pubera, so I was able to get a good clump with roots. But that is an excellent idea for my 2nd addition. I sort of just grabbed little bits of whatever tiny guys I had.

I grew some Curtisii mounted, on some cork I think. Did well, but I had to water it daily & after a year of that I lost patience & repotted it into mix.
