It looks like Piilu to me. Mine has yet to bloom double because I so rarely have vines winter over. This is one cultivar (like some of the other doubles) that when the vines winter over, the previous years' buds usually bloom double. Ones set this season will usually bloom singly. I don't grow a lot of type two prune plants since they are often fussier than the others, but this one has been healthy and blooms robustly, and even though pink isn't always my first choice of color, I really like this plant and would want it in any garden I have. Since this is a new plant, I wouldn't be concerned. You may well see doubles in future years, far more likely in your zone than mine.

Thanks Babs ! It sure is pretty even if it isn't double yet. I'd love to see yours when it blooms ! I've heard such good things about how long and well it blooms I was excited to buy it .

I looked for a photo from last year, but didn't find one. I'll look some more and if needed, I'll take some photos when it blooms in a a couple of months. Right now my clematis are barely starting to push leaf buds.

It's very pretty! I don't especially like the doubles anyway. ;-)

It is Piilu. I hard prune mine which is on a small obelisk every year.

Wow that is insanely beautiful!!! So you cut it back all the way every year ? Good to know . Mine was so vibrant but has now faded from the sun . Still pretty.

I live in east Texas - it gets really hot here in summer. My Piilu is in a pot - would it do better with some afternoon shade? Thanks.....

Hi Judith ! The great thing about pots is you can move em and evaluate the progress from there. Has it started budding already ? If it has I would ( if I had a spot to enjoy it in ) just to help it retain its beautiful color . Mine faded very much in full sun. I'm actually starting to get envious of those with shade in the garden because I'm already frying rose blooms as well.

This is the first year I'm paying attention to types and pruning. When it's done blooming do I cut them off or leave it alone? Don't want to ruin more blooms

Yes, I cut it almost to the ground every year. It doesn't fade much for me, but full Oregon sun is different than full Texas sun...

Piilu is usually considered light prune, so you can prune it lightly after flowering to see if it reblooms. Or you let the seed heads develop - they are ornamental also. Or you can just trim off the old flowers. I do know one gardener, a quite experienced clematis grower in a warmer zone than mine, who had prunes many of her clematis after bloom and she gets rebloom.

It reblooms great if you cut that baby back some after blooming. I've had it quite a while and cut it back after it blooms and get several flushes out of it. I get a mix of singles and doubles.

Since Lilyfinch is far closer to Prettypetals than I am, following her advice is probably better than following mine. I don't get rebloom, but my season is short.

If I feel like it I do hack it back hard and get a second bloom...I don't always take the time.

Babs I hope you know I wasn't contradicting you. You always have the best info and I'd never want to insult you. I do have great luck with Piilu reblooming thankfully and need to get my lazy bones out there now and prune that baby. Take care, Judy

Judy, no I wasn't bothered at all by your comment, quite the opposite. My growing season is so much shorter than those of you in more southerly zones that your experience is different than mine, and so I always hope that someone in a similar zone responds to questions like this.
