I was talking about the evergreen kinds at first. And, yes, apparently they don't need it as nobody is dead-heading them yet they flower heavily anyway.

No, I don't either, and they still produce plenty of blooms every year. All it really does is make them look nicer when the flowers are spent, but I'm not that picky.
