Love the herringbone but hate accent walls. Do the whole wall in herringbone. What does too much grout mean? What about 2 inch square tiles for the shower floor? Too much grout??? Do these herringbone tiles come on a backer? 12 x 12?

We use Herringbone marble tile often and also recently put it in one of our owners bathrooms. In our opinion, it is not too much grout or too difficult to clean. We posted a photo on our instagram this week @hansenrestoration of a marble shower with herringbone. It turned out beautifully. If it is what you want, you should absolutely move forward with it. All tile requires a lot of grout. It has been our experience that there isn't anything exceptionally hard (maintenance wise) when living with herringbone tile. Good luck!

The trick is not to let the tile go so long that the grout gets icky. Also, there is mold resistant grout. I wipe my tile down very quickly with an old towel so no water is left standing. Takes just about 30 seconds. Much easier than cleaning moldy grout.

lol. yes, it is a chevron. your tile guy doesn't want to do this tile because it's a PIA to install. it's difficult to cut and lay out correctly. what does he care how much you have to clean?! He just doesn't want to be bothered w/it.

I have a chevron pattern done in my niche. (yes, it's on a mesh backing) took my tile guys quite awhile to do. I actually redid many pieces of it after they left because it was crooked.

do you have a niche? perhaps you could do a longer niche and use it there. Or, frame out a section on your middle wall and do a square section.

if you still desire the long strip, then have your tile guy do it. or hire a new guy. Make sure you use a stain proof grout. I use Mapei FlexColor CQ w/mine. no need to worry about cleaning the grout. But you do know that with this stone you cannot use regular shower cleaners? any run off will hit that marble. you will have to use a special cleaner that is safe on polished or honed marble. honed marble is pickier than polished marble when it comes to cleaning. even OTC marble cleaners can be too harsh for them. my marble guy gave me a bottle of StoneTech marble cleaner and advised me to use it once a week (my shower floor is black marble).
