I would not want to keep a 3-shelf, dark table in a high-traffic area free of dust. I learned my lesson with a dark bookcase near the kitchen. Never again

I like it, but it won't be in the room by itself. In fact, since you plan to use it against your sofa, not a wall, what does your sofa look like? What style is your other furniture? This is certainly a functional console table and could help with storing things as you come into your home, but I think you need to imagine it with everything else. Maybe post some photos.

Just guessing but it looks like it could be taller than your sofa?

It's about 1/2" shorter than the top of the "solid" (not cushion?) part of my couch.

I have a black table right now, and it actually isn't too bad to keep clean! (but that's probably because my boyfriend for some reason really really loves dusting)

As for the rest of the room, I'm swapping most of it out! There's a lot of holdovers from college days and it just isn't working anymore, plus a lot of it was my roommate's, who just moved out Monday :)

I think I gravitate most towards mid-century modern, contemporary, and transitional, but it's also possible that I'm completely misunderstanding!

The living/dining/kitchen is all one large room. I have acacia hard wood floors throughout. The kitchen has white shaker cabinets along the wall and grey shaker cabinets for the island, with a raised bar along the back of the island. The granite is white/light grey with dark grey and rust/purple speckles. Furniture that I plan on keeping:

--a rather large sectional that I love. In some lights/times of day, it looks green, and in others it looks brown. It's big and the space isn't very large, but I swear it doesnt make the space feel cramped (especially because it helps to define an entry area)

--a coffee table that is a black walnut live edge slab with hairpin legs.

--these stools along the island:

Also, I moved the current entry table out last night to simulate where the subject table would be, and I think it's a bit too long. I think a table less than 66" would be best.

I would like to replace the current table with one that is more open and visually "lighter," but I'm not willing to give up the usefulness of the table-- we use it for keys and mail and we use the little cubbies for shoes. I love having a defined entry way.

I was thinking that putting a table that didn't have enclosed sides would help, hence the post! Of note: I prefer real wood over veneers or laminates. I don't like white-washed or purposefully "antiqued" wood. I'm totally fine with distressed wood as long as it looks like it got that way on its own (like driftwood or an actual antique) rather than the obvious intentional hash-marks that you see sometimes.

Any alternate ideas for the entry table?

I'm also trying to figure out what sort of rug I should put there, if anyone has input for that!
