Rest easy. Each primary sprout has three secondary sprouts adjacent to it. Knock the first off, and one or more other sprouts will take off.

It's a fine balance between bone dry and soaking wet... beware of overdoing the water. I end up killing tubers in over-saturated pots every spring- just tossed five tubers tonight, when checking for growth and encountered rot. It happens, and you just roll with it.

If your soil is bone dry, try a couple drops of dish soap (NOT anti-bacterial) to your water before watering, mixing it in well. It allows the peat moss in the potting mix to absorb the water. Just don't use too much soap... a little goes a long way.

Do you mean dish soap like Dawn? Or the stuff I put in the actual dishwasher?

Not dishwasher stuff... too concentrated. Just good ol' fashion dish soap.

You don't want suds going into the soil. When pre-mixing bone-dry peat moss and perlite together, I fill several gallon milk containers with warm water add 2-3 drops of soap once filled. I turn the gallon over a couple times, and its ready to moisten the peat. I use the same amount when watering pots/cuttings, but I use cooler water and add a dab of hydrogen peroxide. Good stuff, in low quantities.
