Oh yuk Pkk, that is such a bummer. I need some sun and have felt really deprived of it. I don't think I could bear it to see that snow anymore. I think we need a Houzz reunion in the Sahara (guaranteed no snow and some sun at least!)

Good morning ladies..........a fine rainy day here.

Pkk, my artist buddy in Boulder was telling me they've got about 14" of wet snow there and since his place is about 8 miles out of town in the Front Range, he has decided to just say screw the day and sit in front of his fireplace with a good book and bottle of fine wine, and he does have some fine wines. As he says, going down the mountain isn't all that fun with snow on the roadway..............but you couldn't blast him out of that place.

ASV.... that's funny, I don't care what anybody says. Wondering though, would that fall in the category of a bedazzled whoo ha......... just sayin.

So we just got peach pit sized hail that came hammering down on everything - in 5 minutes, all my tulips have been shorn of their petals, the apple and cherry blossom is broken, all my emerging alliums gone! Great fruit season ahead .... not :-(

    Sorry to hear :(

Wow! Sounds like we aren't the only area having miserable weather. Stay safe everyone! Good day to sit and contemplate paint choices! Lol. Anyone got an opinion on favorites? I'm trying to counter a house full of oak.....I like sea salt so far a lot.....am having a sample of drizzle,Lucent yellow and comfort gray mixed now......I also tried top sail, but it was too bright. How about for the ceiling? Should ceiling be the same color throughout whole house....I.e. something whitish? Or same color as walls? Opinions?

Antoinette - I was just reading your post about the neighbor's high wall; what's the latest on that? I didn't have a chance to read everything, before getting the notification about your hail post. It's nice to be on a friendly footing with neighbors, but when it's obvious that they only have THEIR desires in mind, it's time to do what's best for YOU! If you haven't already, check what their building permit allowed them to do; often people get approval for X .. then decide they want to do Y, and conveniently don't ask the municipality if it's OK!

At my previous home, the neighbors put in a pool; their plans met code, so they didn't need neighbors' approval. But when they put in the filter & pump equipment, it was right on the property line with me, within the 35' setback. They'd already installed the pad & some of equipment when I realized it, and immediately told them I thought it wasn't supposed to be there. They said their contractor said it was OK; originally it was supposed to be right behind their house, but the contractor convinced them it would be less intrusive right against MY property! Of course they didn't go back to the buildign department for approval of the change! I went to the code compliance officer .. and they had to move it all. Don't know who have to "eat" the extra cost, and frankly I didn't care!

Hi Astraea - well they finished pouring the concrete this afternoon and then this almighty hail storm started followed by one of the strongest lightning storms I have known here (I shall tell them that is what you get when you mess with the daughter of an abruja!)

Here is the latest image of the coffrage (this is the cladding which will be removed tomorrow) - this is what I look out on. But more importantly our kitchen, dining room and living room windows look straight onto a concrete wall.

We contacted them and ask them to consider the type of fence they add on top of this; to allow us to have some say in the wall cladding/treatment since we look at it but haven't heard back.

I just cannot believe it - it is just so selfish - I really didn't begrudge them the wall and had thought they were working with us. The thing that is clear is that all the other neighbours are in shock as well. So on the moral ground we seem to have the standing.

If all else fails, I shall have painted on my side wall looking onto their yard "Enjoy your view, and know it was at the expense of ours"

    Hi studio

Antoinette, is the wall on the property line and all that disturbed soil in your yard?
Antoinette - did you check with the town to see what they were approved to do, and if what they're doing is according to the approval? I've never seen a wall like this approved, because it is indeed hideous; here they'd require a stepped wall going back towards them.

Morning all, sorry I started the second post as I couldn't find one. Can we keep to the same format we have always used so there is no confusion - OLLD 5/2 (or the appropriate date).

Antoinette, I really feel for you with your wall too. Makes it even harder to disguise when it seems to be so close to your house. I have a similar thing at the back of my place but it was only done as a makeshift thing so I'm waiting for it to fall down. It has a couple of times but the idiots keep putting it back up. It is way over legal height so I won't have any trouble getting it removed, but the bigger problem is that they have planted a row of pine trees that grow over 100ft high right along the boundary. This particular pine is banned in many places and I think it is here too, but I'm not sure exactly when it was banned and whether it is retrospective. I have asked the neighbours to keep the height down, it isn't necessary, but I now lose all my winter sun and my garden and lawn are dying. The plants I have still growing are almost growing sideways trying to get some light. The only bonus with the eyesore fence is that it is stopping the pines growing out at the bottom, otherwise we would be constantly having to chop them back. Can't believe people don't understand you don't plant things right on the boundary line.

Where the compost bins are is where everything has died and what is left is struggling.
