A beautiful sandcherry tree parent gave us a spout last year. I left it alone last season, not sure if it would amount to anything. Now, it's almost as tall as I am. So, I severed the sucker from Mom a few days ago, left it alone and today managed to grab and transplant it to what I hope will be its new home.

A few few questions for the masters:

1 - it really only had a beefy rudabega-esque taproot with 1-2 wispy little feather-like roots. Is that enough to get it going? I was gentle in grabbing it and didn't see any left behind, so my assumption is if that was enough in spot A, it should be enough for spot B.

2 - I know cutting it NOW is a bad call - no sense in doubling its stress. However, this is a single leader with some leaves budding mostly up top and sparsely further down. None below, say, 2 feet. This is in keeping with the growth on its parent. Should I be trimming it to branch out at some point or has anyone had experience in seeing the plant do that on its own from this stage?
