How long has your Satsuma been in the ground? I've read they get better as they get older, larger, more established.

Thanks, well, I didn't know that. It has been in the ground 2 years, but hasn't grown much. Do you think it will get sweeter.

My husband found the name on the orange that was so tasty. Written on a tag was Mineola. Goodness it was sweet.

Mineola is a tangelo variety. They are delicious! I like them more than mandarins, but I'd give your tree some time to mature. I've heard they really improve with age.

So, I'm not understanding. Did you plant an Owari Satsuma or a Minneola tangelo? In any case, I would say the flavor should improve after 3 to 5 years. Owaris can be very good. Minneolas are very good. Of course there are a LOT of cultural variables - heat, cold, rainfall, rootstock. So it may not just be a time- in-the-ground thing. But the fact that your plant just seems to be 'sitting there', is probably a good indication it's not established yet. I think a bit of patience should pay off. Also, make sure you are not letting the rootstock sprout and bear.

Don't get rid of your tree, as Dave N NoVa wrote citrus, especially mandarins and satsumas don't produce high quality fruit until their 4th or 5th year. ,
