Another Carpet Staircase Question

Sorry I can't post a picture but I am having a hard time with my phone right now. Another poster asked a similar question. I want to get rid of the carpet overhang on my staircase but we have a slight curve in our stair case. I've attached the post of the other poster for a clearer understanding. I am stuck on how to do this. It is a simple enough solution with the straight staircase but that curve!

I need to have a side to hide the raw edge of the carpeting (when we replace it) exposed to the hallway. The newel posts will be changed up and anchored much better than what we have so these are my options I am thinking of. a) a lot of work but a build up a side wall by cutting 4" triangles on each step and going from there or b) 4" x 5/8" boards following the current banister? This way the carpet will look recessed We have stairs that are just a bit bigger than standard treads so replacing and staining with just a runner is too expensive.

Our home is an older model and we plan on being here for awhile so all the work we have done has been pretty custom and extensive compared to most but we don't mind as we really enjoy it. Plus, the quality has been superior to the original boxhouse build. Thanks if anyone can help me out.
