granite behind range

I would love to do this in my kitchen. Are the granite and tile the same depth? I'm not sure I will be able to get a thinner granite to avoid a "lip or a step" when the tile and granite are flush up against each other. Is there any work around?

One way to accomplish a flush detail between these two finishes with different thickness is to recessed the granite into the sheet rock. For instance, instead of 5/8" sheet rock behind the granite, install 1/4" thick sheet rock at that location.

can you totally remove the sheet rock? Perhaps have it adhere to the studs alone?

That's a great look for the kitchen .... As for the thickness , I would personally prefer it to be smooth ... The approach with a thinner sheetrock could work . I myself would just have the granite fabricator grind down the thickness of the material and make it exactly what you need.
