If you're going to do that, then I would put some type of decorative floral/greenery on that cabinet to give that set up some life and some dimension and some texture. Otherwise to me, it's looking too flat and gray and overall not very interesting. I would remove that lamp, it doesn't make sense to me there. Stick with more visually interesting pieces to go with a large vase with some tall rustic type floral.

Hello to answer the question if the cabinet is too small? I myself like to have the cabinet larger than the painting or the painting larger than the cabinet. That is just because I love to frame in the grouping (table, art work, table lamp etc). Your way is great too.

I guess i'm the lone voice who thinks they're not quite right together. Can't put my finger on why, but maybe it's the modern simplicity of the painting against the (faux) rustic busy-ness of the finish on the console, or maybe it's that the similarities make them disappear into each other rather than stand out as interesting, but somehow I think they make less of each other than each deserves.

Gaze on these tweaks and see if you don't get the same sense. And this is without even smoothing the finish or whatever...

That third one really brings the painting to life. Is there someplace else for the console, so you could put a different piece here?

The painting is very nice, and I love your entry doors! The cabinet size is not a good fit.

Looks great to help with proportions I would add a floor lamp to the left side of the cabinet and remove the small lamp!

Thank you all for your advice/opinions. I value hearing different perspectives. I own the painting and the cabinet is returnable in 30 days... both are from homegoods! We have a fabulous homegoods nearby & by visiting twice a week, I find interesting stuff once in a while. I'm trying to purchase a few inexpensive pieces to intermingle with my Ethan Allen & pottery barn furniture. I think I'll live with cabinet for s few more days. It's right near the front doors so hard to put chairs on both sides. And that light fixture will be replaced with an open lantern style.

Just FYI the painting has a simple wood floating frame and was $300, the cabinet was $400.

Would you consider a wall hung credenza like the IKEA pieces from Besta?

That cabinet and art is beautiful...love the idea of open lantern style ceiling light....why not just add a art light..it will give accent lighting in the evening...than add your accessories on cabinet without a lamp....maybe add a fiddleleaf fig tree next to cabinet in a beautiful pot...

Is the area big enough to hang the painting with portrait orientation
rather than landscape?
