I'm looking for paint brand recommendations

I agree, I lean towards lighter, clean colors for the kitchen because the cabinets and counters are generally the show, and with a backsplash added, it can be too much going on to have a big color on the wall. :-) I have found that eggshell is easier to wipe off than flat for a ceiling... But I certainly would not add any more sheen than that.

Unless you have crown molding running around the whole ceiling, your room will always look best with the ceilings painted the same color as the walls. This makes the ceiling "disappear" and the room feels taller and more spacious. I was very skeptical when I first heard of this, but decided to try it and oh my goodness you wouldn't believe the difference! The ceiling paint will appear somewhat lighter than it does on the walls because the light hits it differently. But it makes a huge difference in the appearance of the room. You should use flat paint with the same color tint as the walls.

Also, if you have painted cabinets and soffits, paint the soffits to match the cabinets, not the walls. Here is a really good article explaining (and showing in pictures) why:

As for brand, Sherwin Williams is a great balance of price and quality and they regularly have great sales. Benjamin Moore is pricier and rarely on sale, but in my opinion their color quality is richer and more dimensional than SW.

BM, SW. Dunn Edwards are all good paints. any of your expensive paints will be the good ones. they use richer pigments and better bases.

Flat is good for ceilings as it won't highlight any defects or uneveness.

I suggest you first do your research for kitchen design ideas and inspiration for you to know exactly what you wanted your kitchen to look like and/or what vibe you wanted it to have.

I know exactly what I want, the design is finalized. White shaker cabinets, calacatta quartz, white subway tile w/delorean grey grout, dark distressed floor, white trim and light grey walls. I just need to find the grey paint. Most have blue, green or purple undertones which I don't want. I did find a couple Benjamin Moore colors I like.

Have you tried BM Gray Owl? It's a beautiful light gray. I have it in my master bathroom and it seems to have no undertones at all in my light.

@Sbrining is this room at all built yet? If not it's really early to be choosing a final paint. Lighting, your other materials, the orientation and size of windows... all this will absolutely affect how your paint looks. If you're just trying to do a little early homework that's fine. But if you're trying to pick THE paint color for a room that doesn't exist yet you probably won't get it right anyway so it's best to wait a while.
