Fireplace dilemma ???

We move the TV to the adjacent wall, was to high over place,now I'm not sure how to finish off the fireplace. Currently have granite tile(uba tuba)matches kitchen counter top. It's a great room/ kitchen combo. Small but nice. Do I take tile all the way up or put a mantle??There is a niche above the fireplace that I hate. Any suggestions welcome.

Cover that recessed area with drywall, then hang a nice piece of art over it. Don't put a mirror there, unless you have something beautiful to reflect on the other side of the room, like a great view. You don't need a mantle.

I wouldn't cover that with drywall if you plan to sell at some point those outlets are meant for placing Tvs in

You can hang a large enough art on canvas over it, it will enrich the room and hide the niche. I can't see what other colors you have in this room, but here is an example and you can see more art, in various colors and in B&W, on our page! Enjoy and good with your project... Raisa

metcham...Think of it this way...most home fires are caused by faulty wiring...why cover the potential source of the thing that can burn down the house? Most "code" is common sense...written down and enforced. And you are very welcome!

I would do a nice mantel above fireplace. As far as recessed area above, how about a built in cabinet with an arched top to make it more interesting? You would still have to bring outlets through back of cabinet to stay up to code.
