Looking for evergreen shrub that is not solid green in color.

Do you guys have any recommendations for an evergreen shrub that would look good in front of a row of yews? I was thinking of something like kaleidoscope abelia but need something that will keep its yellow color even with just part sun.

I am in zone 6b and would like something about 4x4 ft or the ability to prune to approximately that size. I'm thinking yellow or variegated, just something that will pop in front of the green yews.

The area faces west in front of our house so it gets midday sun and then the trees in our front yard block the sun until it starts setting. Probably 3-4 hours at most.

There are probably a number of things you could use, but I'd look seriously at Euonymus Gold Splash® Wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei 'Roemertwo'), if you can find it. Photo from Proven Winners:

You could also try Ilex crenata 'Drops of Gold' if it's hardy there. Although it may not get enough sun in your situation to bring out the golden color.

I like Abelia 'Lemon Lime' more than Kaleidoscope.

Thanks for the suggestions! Does that euonymous have problems with scale?

I haven't seen lemon lime abelia... I'll look for it. Curious, why do you prefer it over kaleidescope?

In some regions scale can be a problem. Mine have had no issues. I'm not familiar with your region. Talk to your nurseryman.
