Geez this is a thread I forgot about. Anyways ours looked healthy this year for what's that worth. What do these trees usually succumb to? It serves a pretty important screening role so it sucks that it is so short lived or so they say. Hold my breath every spring.

Do you know the species of what you are calling flowering almond? What we call flowering almond around here is a not-too-large shrub, Prunus glandulosa.

So based on the picture above can that be confirmed as a Flowering Almond? All I'm basing that of is the real estate paper work that said it was. I can try and find a better picture if that would help. It's hard to find info on that tree as I'm often seeing pages that talk about the shrub.

There are several plants referred to by that common name. Off the top of my head, this looks more like Prunus triloba (flowering almond, flowering plum) than any of the shrubby forms but would need to see close ups of the flower and leaves to confirm.

Why is it when I look up Prunus Triloba I basically only see stuff about a small shrub?

Now I am looking at a cell phone in st louis, but that does not look like a tree on death's door by any means.

Often real estate people say something off the top of their heads because they do not want to look like they know squat in front of the client.

Here is a link to Prunus triloba that has some leaf pictures and it says that it grows to 12 -15' and lives to 50 years. Maybe it is another one of the many Flowering plums. Trees do not always pay attention to these descriptions, sense they can't read. I have a 15' fragrant mimosa that doesn't know that it is only supposed to be 3-5'. It really threw off my spacing and design.
