The grape vines growing on the railing of my deck are not really
a serious fruit project, but I'm going to try to get a *little* fruit
to snack on. I have one wine grape and one table grape planted three or
four years ago. Both are making many leafy shoots, even after I cut
off some of the nascent buds as they appeared. I suspect there will be
more leaves than can really all get full sun and may prune a few of the
canes where they are most crowded. Even so, I think there may be more
flower clusters than the vines can fully ripen.

My question: if I pinch the flower cluster off a cane, will the
leaves on that cane produce energy that contributes to the fruit on
another cane, or would it be better to remove that cane entirely and be
sure that those leaves don't compete for light and space with the canes
that actually have fruit on them.

At this point, the vines seem big enough that I don't think I need to
promote any more vegetative growth just for the sake of bigger vines.
Not that I know much about grapes, so I may be wrong there!
