Free seeds

I've got 10 seed pods on my no ID Plumeria. Two have fallen off and the rest are soon to follow. Her flowers are dark pink with a hint of yellow in the center. I will be planting some seeds but not all. If you would like some seeds, send a self addressed stamped envelope to me. Brenda Wilber 113 Mindy Road, Pollock, LA 71467.

    Hi Brenda,

I received your seeds in the mail yesterday! Thank you so much! I placed them between 2 wet papertowels last night to increase the germination rate and planting them today. What is your germination rate on the seeds you planted? There's a few seeds that broke off from the wings, should I plant those?

    Hey Snuffles,

I will say for sure some of the seeds will not germinate. The first seed pods I collected, I planted every seed. I got four to five seedlings to germinate, per pod. Which I sent seeds out by the pod full. So I would say you should get 4 or 5 to germinate. I hope that answers your question.

Yes, the wing part is not essential. I would plant it, especially if it plumps up with some moisture.

This is my first time to germinate seeds so I'm no expert. There is some great info on the web. From my experience. The seedlings I germinated in a seedlings kit with a lid did the best.

good luck! These were planted May 19th.

more about this photo: We took only the plumpest seeds from three different pods and put them directly into the prepared seed starter kit. I then soaked the remainder of the seeds and planted only the ones that plumped up with soaking.

If you are asking how fast mine germinated. I would say 5 to 14 days. i planted a few this morning. I'll let you know when they pop up.

I am hoping I get more than 4-5 to germinate but not ALL 37! They're all planted and inside a Rubbermaid tub with lid. I've been reading about what the color results may be. It's so exciting! Your mother plant looks to be a dark gorgeous pink so the children should be a variation of pink. Is there a hint of orange in the center of your top photo? ! Hopefully it won't take 7 yrs to bloom as some others said. Let's try to keep each other posted.

They lighten up with sun exposure. There is yellow/orange in the center.

Yes, keep me posted on your seedlings. I'll keep you posted on mine. I hope you get more than 4 or 5 too!

Do you have any other Plumeria plants?

Hi all. Received my seeds today! Thanks Brenda! Will plant them tomorrow!

I like that yellow/orange center. It gives it a pop! Hope one of the kids come out that way. I think we will get a variation of pink, orange and yellow colors. Is your mother plant from a seedling or cutting? I hear it will take 2-3 yrs average to bloom and sometimes 4-5 yrs and the first flower is not true.

I have 4 white with yellow center grown from cuttings in ex-large clay pots. They're from my Dad's mature plumeria and he heavily prunes that poor tree couple times a year. 3 out of the 4 are prolific bloomers. The last one refuses to bloom. Tons of foliage, no bloom, all conditions the same. I had a red plumeria but it died last winter. I was a newbie and should of pulled it out of the clay pot and stored it. I thought the mild So California winter shouldn't destroy it but I was wrong. I did put some covering over it but it wasn't enough to survive the 2 weeks of morning frost. Now I know better. I'm currently trying to root cuttings that I picked up from a generous member from this forum. A few are starting to take. I see tiny leaves shooting up now that the weather is warming up. My main issue is sun burn so keeping them shaded while providing heat to the bottom.

The mother plant grew from a cutting from a friends plumeria. She is a great bloomer and usually splits into two branches after she blooms. She is also very fertile and made like 12 seed pods last year. Which we are now harvesting. We will be pruning sometime this year. Maybe we could trade cuttings?

We have a red and a yellow cutting that we got last year. They are rooted and doing well but I don't think we will see them bloom this year. I just ordered a couple of cuttings from Maui Plumeria gardens today! Can't wait to get them. We ordered a Slaughter pink and a Kimo.

I mailed your seeds yesterday, Nyoman. Good luck.

Wow 12 seed pods for one tree. That sounds like a lot to me. Sure I'd be happy to trade cuttings with you but the only cuttings I would have available this year would be from my dad's tree which is the white and yellow. Not sure if you want that? I can send you pictures of the flowers when it blooms. It has a great sweet scent. The other cuttings I've been trying to root for close to 2 months and I'd rather have the tree take off with more branches before cutting them. It's so true about plumeria, it's like potato chips, you can't just have one...

Snuffles, sounds like yours aren't ready for cutting, so maybe we can trade in a few years.

I planted these on June 3. The first seedling popped up and I gently pulled off the wing after a little spritz of water.

Here are some I planted May 19.

I hope you guys are having good luck with yours.

i mailed some seeds to SAN Antonio Tx today. Good Luck!

I have one more two sided pod on the tree.

Also I did some research and I would say that my plant is a Rose Red Plumeria. Looks exactly like the ones on line. Of course seedlings aren't always true to the parent.

Your seedlings look good! I think mine maybe too wet or humid. I'll check again and may leave the rubbermaid lid a bit opened. Our San fernando valley weather is suppose to hit 90 by Wed so I'm going to move them to a more shaded area. They're currently in semi sun & shade.

I looked up "rose red plumeria" and I agree that it looks just like yours.

    Brenda,

I just go your mail. Thank you so much and sorry you ended up need to pay for postage too. I thought one stamp is enough :(

I bought some seeds from ebay too. Are you interested if I also send you a few seeds? I have not received it yet so I'm not sure how viable those seeds will be.

I soaked them last night and this morning I notice almost all of the seeds are at the bottom of the container, so I'm assuming they're good and viable seeds. So excited!!!

No problem about the stamp. Just thought it was kinda bulky and I wanted to make sure it got to you. I'm glad the seeds look good.

i would love some different seeds if you want to send me some but not necessary. What kind did you order?

I started seedling on June 4...until today no sigh of any sprouts. I hope I didn't do anything wrong. I'll be patient.

Oh I would think it should be doing something by now. They will look like they are sticking up out of the soil. Wet and Gently tear the wing and look for green. What did you plant them in? Those I planted on the 3rd I experimented and used a heat pad on the bottom. Several of them had a root coming out of the bottom of the seed starter before they did anything above soil level.

I have one more pod on the tree. I'm thinking it will be ready to harvest in the next couple of days. I will send you more seeds if you like.

Just received a lovely letter from Misty, so she will be receiving the last of my seeds.

Sorry to anyone who missed out.

Thanks to all who requested. Good Luck and keep me posted on your seedlings.

    Hello Brenda,

After I left all seeds in a damped paper towel for 3 nights. there're four of them that looked viable (a little bit thicker). Then, I put them in the soil that I prepared (Miracle-Gro seed starting potting mix with a little bit of perlite). As of today, there is no sign of any sprouting. Tomorrow, I will dig them out to see how they're doing. I don't know what I did wrong. Sad..

I'm so sorry to hear that. It happens. I killed all of the seeds I planted last year. Put them in the hot sun for too long. This year I only allowed 3 hours of direct morning sun until they got the start of true leaves. Many of the seeds I planted this year just didn't do anything.

My husband consoled me last year by purchasing 3 cutting on line. It helped! We did lose one over the winter, but we still have two going strong.

I would not be surprised if she made seed pods this year. I'll be glad to send some more next year when they are ripe.

Hi Brenda, do you still have any seed left? I would love some:)

Sorry, the last of them are all spoken for. I will post again next summer if she makes any.

    Ok thank you

plumerias_lover, how are your seeds looking? I planted mine about same time as yours and only 1 has sprouted so far. I think they were initially too wet, then too hot when the temp went over 90. Hope they didn't get cooked. I kept moving them to find a cooler spot. The one that sprouted - color changed from green to greenish-tan color so definitely too hot. Think I'll start leaving the rubbermaid lid slightly open.

Your seeds may need more time to germinate. It takes 7 days to over a month depending on freshness of the seeds. Did you only plant the 4 seeds or all of them?

    Hi snuffles,

I planted only the four seeds because the rest of them were as flat as paper which I thought they wouldn't make it. I checked the seedling . Three of them were soft and brown. Only one of them that is a little bit thick. But there is no sprouting at all. I will wait until the 4th to check on it again. Thanks

    You have seeds left, please

Good afternoon! Do you still have some seeds? I'd love to trade you some of my Pride of Barbados, if you'd like. They are perennials that grow great here in Central Texas, deciduous and come back to their full glory every year! They produce seed pods every late summer.

Wow gorgeous plant. Sorry, my last pod still on the tree, is spoken for. I will probably have more next summer, if you would like to trade then. Do you have any plumeria plants already?

Yes, it's ok, I knew it would be a longshot! But thank you and hopefully will catch you next summer! Yes, I planted a bunch of seeds when we lived in Missouri about 5 years ago! After the move in 2015 to Central, Texas, I still had about 30 good plants. The move was rough on them. But they are doing well and hoping for some first time inflos this summer!

Awesome! I saw your other post with pics! I hope you get some inflos! How exciting! Maybe the Texas sun and heat will get em blooming! What kind/color made your seeds? I have approximately 30 seedlings ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months old. I hope I can keep them going like you did.

Oh yes, plenty of sun and heat! Well, seeds are rarely true to the mother plant but they were mainly sold as rubra, or pink to red leaning flowers. But who know, I think some are Celadines mixed in. And when you get them from eBay, even bigger gamble. lol I can say now though I can identify the varieties to be either white or yellow, and some Pinks. Until they bloom, hard to say. Stems of the leaves on some are reddish, and the others are just green.

That's interesting. As many of our seedlings have red stems and others green. We wondered if that was any indication of the bloom color but figured they were just to young to say and may change as they grow.

I'm no expert, but I believe the celadines foliage has a double vein border around the outsides of the leaves. Ruby's display a longer, oval, pointed end leaf.

Hi Brenda, you were right on the number! 4 of them have sprouted! There maybe one more trying to poke through. They are slow to sprout but our temp is in the 90-100 lately so they should sprout if they are viable. Thanks again for the seeds.

I'm so glad to hear that snuffles! I hope they grow into nice plants for you!

    Brenda,

Sadly the seeds that I got from ebay is not plumeria seeds. I think they give me some random seeds. It doesn't have the same wing with the seeds that you sent to me. I don't know if I should start sowing them and see what kind of plants they actually are ...

Wow bummer. How did the seeds I sent you do?

Do you have any more seeds?

I am sorry. I now see that you do not have any more seeds. I am in San Jose so would love to get together with anyone in San Jose to share ideas about Plumerias. I am obsessed with them and looking for ideas, tips, cuttings, seeds, and anything Plumerias :)

My two Plumeria seedlings I got!! Thanks Brenda! My first two to survive. :-)

Yaaay! I'm so happy for you! Keep me informed of their growth. I will post some pics of my seedlings soon.

They look good! I'll post pics of mine soon. I have 3 that made it. One of the sprouted seedlings didn't make it.

Snuffles, they look great. Which part of CA? I am in San Jose.

Hi Andre, Thank you! I'm the San Fernando Valley. I'll take pics this week and post!

    Yay Snuffles!

I added compost on the very top layer. I might add more perlite to it when I get time. It's been very hot 90+ temps in the past month but it's slowly getting cooler.

Here are my seedlings(25). Now I just have to keep them alive for 3 or 4 years. I plan on giving them to friends and relatives when they get big. I have about 10 more still in smaller cups that I didn't take a photo of. We have acquired a new plant and several new cuttings over the summer. I am excited to see what blooms we will get next summer and the years to follow, especially our seedlings!

They look great Brenda! Thanks again for sharing the seeds!

Brenda, wow! They look great. Your friends will love them. Your friends are very fortunate.
