Hello all, I lost a large chunk of my kumquat tree and noticed there was a hard brown sappy substance on the dead stems. I've never seen anything like it before. I am going to spray some need on it but if someone could tell me what's going on I'd greatly appreciate it. I tried to get a closeup but I'm not sure they turned out so well on the pictures. Both should be around the centers of both pictures. Thank you for any info.
