will iris buds dye from spring freeze?

My iris's have buds on them and it is suppose to dip into the 20's. will this kill them or do I have to cover them?

I saw a picture once of beardeds with socks over many of the buds!

I just had snow and a very cold night and any buds look fine so far, but I need to wait until they open to be sure. But it wasn't as cold as the 20s! How did yours come through it?

I had some turn to mush after it hit low 20's.

That is a great idea! My first year I tried setting up stakes with sheets over them--what a mess! I've since leaned they can handle a light frost but not a deep freeze.

What is a deep freeze exactly? We are headed for temps of 28 degrees one night and 32 the next. Is there any hope of saving the multiple stalks with many buds?
