I live in the same area as the OP, and that looks very much like yellow nutsedge, Cyperus esculentus. A real pest, and not easy to get rid of. I've had some success with pulling/digging, making sure to get the roots and nutlets if the latter have already formed. There are also herbicides formulated specifically for nutsedge.

Yeah, I started pulling them since I don't want to spray a nutsedge killer on the grass that is just starting to grow.

I have had to use Sedgehammer when an infestation got too big to attack with pulling, and nothing other than the sedge was affected at all - not grass, not perennials, not roses. If you have to resort to a sedgicide, your other plants will be ok.

Thanks for the feedback! I think the bad reviews of the sedge killer were people who put way too much down.
