Honestly it's a little too much brown it clashes with the steps n hardwood flooring. Maybe a white table with brighter colors for accents

I agree with leelee that the accessories you are showing are not right. I think you need a slender lamp and one bulky interesting item. The jar and the bowl are too small and the round bowl on a stand is not right. If the red item is indeed a bowl and not a plate, then it might work beside a lamp, tho I would prefer a larger bowl.

The first photo below is similar in size to your console and what has worked there is totally different from what we've been telling you. Sometimes one happens along just the right combination of items that breaks the rules you've learned but is quite lovely. That's something that a designer can put together, but trying to tell you what to use is different from being on the spot.

I also like the look of the second table which is quite simple, but much larger than yours. You may need two lamps and one item between them. This is not a science, but an art, and therefore is difficult to direct by email.

I've been in homes where I used the items that were already there but created a totally different look using those items. You should treat yourself to a designer's services for an hour or two. You might be amazed at what we can do!

Thank you Carolyn, I will try to find a lamp. I so appreciate all of the help and guidance that everyone has offered. I still have painting to do, so after that is done, and if I still can't get it right, I may find a designer :)

Really like the new mirror and think it works well there. I agree that the accessorizing needs trying of different arrangements to get it right. One possibility to consider would be to try two items of similar height, both of heights that reach close to the edge of the mirror on either side of the mirror, not intruding too much, if at all on the mirror itself, with either nothing directly underneath or a small item. Perhaps something like a vase on one side and a small lamp or larger plant on the other for example. No matter what you decide to do think you have a good base - it looks lovely! I think you need something more "solid" on the table. An Urn with a large evergreen plant. A lamp and on the bottom shelf some books.

Back to the original question, to my eye the mirror is just a little too large for the space. And combined with the shiny lamp, it seems like a bit too much. I applaud your willingness to keep rearranging until your eye is pleased. I prefer the second mirror given it's surroundings. With the dark stairs and chese, it seems more harmonious. Had your stairs and trim been painted white, the shiny mirror might have been good.

Love the mirror. I would replace the table with a vintage chest like the one curryj shows above. One with character. Nice carving or interesting hardware. I would add a stoneware lamp with ivory or burlap shade at one end, a bushy ivy at the other and a small ceramic or pewter tray in the middle to throw keys and mail on. That's it. Simple, utilitarian, yet welcoming. I would also add a tall ceramic urn on the floor for umbrellas, and walking sticks. The entrance to a home should be warm, tell the story of the family, be part of the workings of the home. Not just for show. My opinion. Have fun.

Try clusters of three. It's more eye appealing. Also mix heights of the pieces....and also what about making it more personal with a picture? Id also put something on the ground in the corner next to the stairs. Stool? plants? basket? idk. Something....Check out these ideas.

Just a side note Darlene to what I said above....I love your brown stoneware urns. Are they vintage? I would definitely use one on the chest during the summer for fresh sunflowers or a huge bunch of yellow daisies or red dahlias...very Great Dixter!

I like the other mirror with the table, flowers and red dish angles with the smaller plant in front of it. You want to use an odd number of items grouped at different heights.

Hi Cat, the urns are from China they are about 60 yrs old, my Dad's neighbor used to get his vinegar shipped from China in these.

I think the mirror is too large for the space and at the very least it needs to be raised. The accessories on the able top are undersized and not terribly interesting. You need to add color and texture.

It is tough when comments come into a discussion and you have no idea whether they refer to the original picture or the changes that have been made over many weeks and lots of work.

I like the original photo best. I would tape off the frame around the octagon mirror and spray/paint it a dark color to match the darker legs of the entry table. That will anchor the mirror to the table. The Urns are fabulous. I hope they don't fall off the ledge.

I feel like my eye wants to see something in a color for the chest/table. I think you've got a lot of brown wood in that foyer. Do you want to pick up some other colors from the next room, perhaps? I don't see what you've got in the surrounding spaces...

Hi Darlene! I liked both mirrors but the second is definitely a better scale for your table and your wall space. Do you have an outlet behind the table for a lamp? If not what about choosing a tall live orchid for your vertical element?

Deco, Yes, I am getting an outlet installed, and will put a buffet lamp on the table. Also will be putting more interesting accessories with color. The walls will also be painted in a deeper shade. Thanks for the comments:)

I think the mirror is lovely, (the long one you show now) but you need to off-set it or mount it to one side if you are going to have a skinny lamp beside it. This is one example of when you don't need to place the mirror smack dab in the center of the wall.
I use my entrance table as a catch all for mail and maybe keys. This will damage the furniture top unless a tray or wooden bowl is used underneath, for the keys, especially.
I like a bureau chest idea but it has to be wider than the mirror and lamp width.
I liked the spindly table, but things look better in groups of odd numbers as far as tschotchka's go - 3's, 5's... I thinkbring back your lamp and put it where the plant is and move the mirror over to the right a little. Lamps in a hallway look so cosy on at night!

It's wonderful to have a lamp in front of a mirror because it increases the light that the lamp gives out.

I agree with some others. The mirror is too heavy for the space. The scale is off with the console and the mirror. Less is more. Maybe something sculptural and some candles could be added. Definitely too much with the lamp. Maybe something different could be added. Check out homegoods. Not necessarily the trailing ivy route.

I think the biggest issue is the table. It needs to be solid- not open shelving. I keep thinking demilune with drawers, or any wood chest with drawers. There is just too much going on with the shelving. If you can change the mirror, (and move the existing one to another room!) I think you should do so. The one you have is lovely; just not quite right for the space.

I like the second mirror and the table. I really like the pots you had in the first picture. Have you tried those on the table or are they too big? I even liked them on the bottom shelf of the table. I also liked the flowers you had on the table in the first picture. I think if you put a lamp or the flowers on one side of the table and a tray on the other side of the table and your pots back on the bottom shelf it would look good.

I am thinking many of these recent comments might not be referring to the NEW mirror, because I think the new one is perfect for the space, definitely not to large imo. I think a buffet lamp will work beautifully, especially on a bulkier chest or table. I would think the lamp would go on the right, to offset the curve of the staircase trim on the left.

The size of the second mirror is perfect, and its shape, with its gentle curves, mimics the curve of the stairs' trim. A collection of blue and white chinoiserie ginger jars etc.might look very nice under the table.

Think of the entry as the introduction to the rest of your home. What is your style? It is the necklace and earrings - do they go with the rest of the outfit?

I love your lamp and the first mirror and the second mirror and your entry table. Just not all together. I can't see the rest of your space, but your home looks like a fairly new traditional 2 story home. The table fits well with the architecture.

I think the second mirror, although not exemplary traditional, works in the space with the table. Soft curves and the appropriate scale and adds interest to the space. Traditional decor needs a touch of something to keep from getting boring.

The lamp could work, but not with the mirror, as you are overwhelming the traditional space.

The first mirror is too big and solid for the space. Needs to be matched with heavy, large scale furniture.

All choices depend on what other furniture & accessories are in the immediate vicinity of this table. Could we see a picture of the entire entry?

I agree about a lamp .. always cozy to have a bit of light in the evening .. very inviting!

I believe that that the bottom shelf (of the table) is meant to be more of a stabilizing piece than a shelf.

And a plant for more added texture & shape.

I think you should remove pieces on bottom shelf of console. Change mirror to something not so wide, put a buffet lamp with something low on console top.
