New kitchen appliances - Help please!

Hello,

I am building an apartment (will be the second part of a 2 family) and I'm in the process of buying new kitchen appliances. Here is what I have for ideas:

Gas cooktop: GE Monogram 36"

Wall oven/microwave: GE Monogram Advantium 30"

French door wall over: GE Monogram or Cafe

Refrigerator: Frigidaire Professional standard depth

Dishwasher: Not sure, possibly Bosch (want to find pro handles like other apps)

Trash compactor: Not sure, possible Kitchen Aid (to keep pro handle look)

Hood: Not sure.

I'm also considering the Thermador gas cooktop and the Bosch wall ovens but then I would have to re-think the other appliances to keep the handles all similar.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the above items or any suggestions? I'm overwhelmed with all the different brands and options! I am single but spend a lot of time cooking/baking/hosting so I spend a good amount of time in the kitchen. I want reliable appliances but I don't want to overspend when it's not necessary. My budget is around $12,000, but hoping to spend less.

I'm definitely going with a gas cooktop and don't really want the microwave over that as a vent/hood.

Thanks for reading this and any input is appreciated!

I agree. I wouldn't put so much emphasis on the handles. Not sure where you're located but I haven't seen trash compactors used in probably decades. I think you could save money there and just use a double pull out trash/recycle that you empty daily. Bosch is my favorite dishwasher, even an entry level model is great. I would definitely rethink the refrigerator. If you have the choice, counter depth is usually really worth it depending on your plan. Make sure you take a good look at how the standard depth fridge will fit (especially depth) and if your doors will have the space to open enough to remove the veggie drawers for cleaning. Good luck!

Thanks! Will post this over in Appliances...I must have scrolled right past that section :) I just like the cohesive look of all the handles at least being similar...it's not a professional kitchen so everything will be somewhat close together. I really like cooking with gas and I really don't like cooking with induction. I know I would probably get used to it but we have natural gas and I prefer it anyway, so why not stick with it.

Thanks Artful Kitchens! I'm north of Boston and have always had a trash compactor...I just feel like you save so much "space" by crushing the trash. I don't put any food or wet products. By rethinking the fridge do you mean brand or depth? I love the look of counter depth but I feel like you lose so much space inside the refrigerator. The Frigidaire Pro I was looking at was a difference of 6 cu ft. I made the mistake when building my last kitchen of putitng the refrigerator against a wall...could never take out the right side veggie drawer! Will not make that mistake again!

I've not seen a trash compactor in ages! I've never had one. Oh, wait! Yes I have...my foot! :)

This is off topic, kind of, but, am I the only one who thinks there are too many forums, i.e., a lot of redundancy? For instance, cpartist suggested she post this in the appliances forum (which I certainly don't have a problem with!), but, since the question is about kitchen appliances, it doesn't not belong in the kitchens forum. Worse yet are the gardening forums! I see so many questions that go unanswered because they're posted in some ultra-specific, niche category.

I'd really love to hear anyone's thoughts on this! :)

Sammy, I agree it's a kitchen question but in the appliance forums you have folks who live and breathe appliances. There are pros who sell appliances and pros who install them and they all know the latest and greatest and who was bought by whom, etc, which is why the suggestion to post in the appliance forum.

Also agree about a trash compactor. I'd rather have the double trash bins or extra storage.

So it must be a FLA thing with the trash compactor question. We have bugs galore here and cannot keep any trash inside lest we be carried off by the cockroaches during the night! Most dry stuff like paper cans and plastic get recycled. Regarding the refrigerator, I meant the depth. Just make sure your design can accommodate it.

I would recommend Bosch. I had a Bosch then went with GE dishwasher and HATED IT,. It was mid level and did not get dishes clean, especially the silverware. Never have a problem with my mid level ($900.) Bosch in my new build. I had to check the dishes every time I took them out of the GE. By the way, my Bosch does not have a handle, it has an inset area for opening it.
