i will explain again my situation:

a mango tree just arrived from a 13 day truck container transport. it arrived diseased. i can scratch the bark surface of the branches and it is not green but its kind of yellow. i see a lot of brown gums/sap coming out from the wounds. leaves are half green half yellow some with a lot of small black spots. also the bark in some branches looks like falling away and fragile. what could it be please?

Yep,it needs TLC. Best care. Thats a big plant..nice trunk. With good care it will snap back. You got- with the pot? Or was it bare root,and you repotted?

Yes, stanofh, it came with the pot. It was root bound. I repotted it and moved it outside in the sun but with lots of shade. Signs tell me it had a disease called dieback gummosis, not 100% sure though. I noticed trunk lesions and quite some thick brown sap gum. I had to cut drastically as I saw black shades and spots in the branches.

That tree was near flowering too. I would have to see in person if I thought it needed pruning. You never know when they will re spout from what looks near dead.

Here's my Tree. This is the one the "experts" on the international fruit growers forum say wont grow in the bay area. See how its not grown to 9' ?..lol I left out more branches and the full size of it.

Which tree was near flowering? Mine? I don't understand. I also don't understand what's not grown to 9'.

Look at the cambium of my tree. Do you think I could have saved it if I didn't prune so hard.

If I left all branches unpruned , as I understand you suggest, it might have spread more the dieback

Your first pic shows your tree with flowers, I'm guessing that is the pic the seller showed you before it was shipped but it went into shock during shipping.

I lost all my mango trees this past winter so I hope yours survive. Your trunk and branches looked impressive and it should recover given the season. If it was colder now in would say the chance for survival would be slim but this is the growing season and plants recover best now.

Yes the first photo is by the seller. As you can see i drastically cut the branches and left only one as they were affected by maybe dieback gummosis or just shock disease, what do I know, look at the black spots on the cross sectional cambium cut.
