thank you bette p. I like both ideas you chose I and they would definitely got nice but I'm trying to make them connect but honestly I want to go basic for this project because I'm really just sprucng the home up to be a home insurrection so I kinda wanna stay basic

Do you use your back patio area at all? I do like the ideas that were first shown---even if you don't put up a pergola, it just makes sense to connect them so you could put a chair or 2 between the 2 areas to relax on.

I've been amazed when people have taken down their decks to create patios instead how much I prefer the later. Bought a house last year with a patio, and found I got much fewer mosquito bites than in my prior rental in the same town with a deck: I think the mosquitoes like to live under it.

I like the idea of creating steps down to a patio from both the doors: make them the same - using treated lumber rather than plywood. Then as time and money allows, spruce up the patio area - add some planters or something. I've bought a few galvanized steel tubs this year at a feed store - cheapest containers on the market, look better with age, and stackable to take with me if I move...

Look-up "pallet patio decks" on Pinterest. There are some great ideas, and chances are there is a local home/hardware store nearby that gives pallets away for free.

Deck out from house about 10' - 15', have steps travel entire width of deck. Make each step 2/3 feet deep...use throw pillows on (deep) steps for extra seating when
entertaining. Make a simple cedar screen to divide entries...actually,
you will build screen first, and frame deck around it - railings could
be horizontal, too, like the screen.

Looks like money is an issue for your friend & her project. Have you considered enlisting some help from your community? Sometimes church groups or service clubs or informal groups of friends can do a modern take on a barn raising. Working together and combining skills & materials can be a win/win when things are tight. Good luck!

We already had a poured area that had a screen box around it. I would extend a deck crossing from one of the stoops to the other in your case.

Oops, where did that come from? A different project entirely.

We wanted to upgrade the look of it, so we tore off the screen box and put up posts. These are 4 x 4 vinyl fence posts from the local hardware store. I believe they are 8' long/tall, maybe seven. You want to buy them long enough, and you can cut them down if you need to. We debated what to put between the posts. We loved having the screens, lots of bugs in Florida. We needed to fill in the bottom to keep the dogs from busting through. We ended up pouring a cement knee wall, but there are tons of lovely railing options available.

We have another door to the left of the one for the porch. It goes to the garage and has an awning over it. We felt the entry door question was confusing, which is the real front door? We added a fancy mid-century screen grille found on eBay to emphasize the "Real" front door. I also planted a tree in the front yard in front of the other door to de-emphasize it.
