I have napkin rings, sort of a collection, a few family, mostly bought because they had a family name....one of my favorite is very poor...not even trying to be silver nor plate, but it is engraved "Margaret" and was my great grandmother's...poor as church mice they were.
But it just so happens my grand daughter is named Margaret too>

I remember using napkin rings when I was a child. Each of us had a different design or shape in silver. We used them at the dinner table only.

I bought it at an estate sale so I assume that no family member wanted it. I was told that the family that built the house in 1923 still owned the house so the "last" family member either passed on or was placed in a nursing home. So I assume that it (and an 1873 punch ladle that I also bought) were family pieces -- parents/grandparents of the man who built the house?

OOH! is the ladle sterling?

You know I didn't look -- I just turned it over and saw the X-1873 (which I assume means Christmas) and bought it because I was looking for one. But I will do that now.

It isn't. Sigh! But I appreciate it's 144 years of age.
