You absolutely MUST get a shag run in there, maybe a dark one over the silvery carpet? And more mirrors. I like the direction you're going.

Wow, I really like it! I don't mind most of the white trim, but I would consider painting out the two white doors on either side of the bed. Do you really need window treatments? I love that window.

Agree with Fori on the more mirrors. I like it!

The only thing that seems "off" to me is the rug color, and you are already planning to change that. I think a silvery carpet will be spot-on.

I remember Pier 1 selling a mirrored vanity a few years ago. A quick search turned up the Hayworth Mirrored Vanity Desk that I think would be fabulous for the TV or as an actual vanity. Very glam, very Hollywood.

What are those doors on either side of the bed? Can you open them with the end tables so close? I was expecting to see mirrored end tables, they are so readily available now. The desk cawaps posted would be fabulous. If you don't consider down sizing the end tables with mirrored ones that don't crowd the doors so I would definitely add it. Your space is fabulous. I agree on the window!!

I would paint the doors and trim next to the beds the wall color and the chair rail the wall color. If you want to get fancy and make a commitment to purple, Lutron Satin Colors makes two purple switch and receptacle colors, Merlot or Plum. Neither is probably a match but one might be a good blend.

I absolutely love the direction you've taken this room. It already looks tres chic and with a little bit more tweaking (most of which you already have planned), you'll have that glamorous bedroom of your wife's dreams.

I do think that the bedding itself could be sexier. Do a Google search on "Hollywood glam bedding" and you'll see what I mean. Think sensual fabrics like satin and (faux) fur; down that you really sink into.

I'd also add a few pieces of carefully chosen artwork in gorgeous frames (maybe something art deco). Again, I think sexy and "grown up" are in order. Nothing cutesy. Think elegant and classic.

Please share the finished result when you're done! I long for my own bedroom to be more glamorous, and your project inspires me.

Wow, such great thoughts here! Thank you so, so much for your time and insight! Let me see if I can answer any questions and also I can post some of the decisions we have for a few things:

@Fori is not pleased: Would love a shag rug, but would it work on top of another rug? Is it weird having layered rugs? We have a large round shag that is looking for a home and would be a perfect fit, size wise...but unfortunately I think the color won't work (its cream/goldy in color). But maybe we'll try it just to see how we like how it looks in general and can eventually get one in the proper color.

@daisychain01 & @arcy_gw & vpierce: the doors on the sides of the bed lead to the bathroom and master closet. The picture was show with a wide angle lens so it distorts things a bit, and the nightstands look like they block the doorways, but they don't. The nightstands come just to the edge of the door molding (good thing, I never thought to measure that it would all fit when I ordered them). The other thing about the nightstands is they *are* mirrored, but just the drawer and the top. The mirrors are also silver leafed vs. a standard mirror, so its hard to tell from the pics...but we agree more mirrors are needed :)

@palimpsest: We are considering painting the doors (& chair rail), would you paint it with a semi-gloss in the same color, or just use the same flat paint (afraid the doors would take a beating -- but would semi look weird?)

Would this clash with all the purple?

@cawaps: That desk is cool. We originally thought to mount the TV on the wall and put nothing underneath it, but you've inspiried us to think differently, and maybe that will be the home for extra mirror bling!

@IdaClaire: Absolutely. Still haven't picked out the bedding, but my wife likes some of the stuff from Kylie Minogue (yes, that Kylie). Something flashy in that vein, but I am trying to keep it not too crazy... Also, definitely need some art, but the room is so weird with wallspace I'm afraid once the TV is up we have limited room. I usually go oversized, so maybe I need to change my mindset to use smaller pieces to fit the space :) I saw a cool abtract pic of water waves (uttermost makes it) that I thought was cool, but would a picture containing mostly turquoise and blue look weird?

@Oaktown & powermuffin: I hear you on the ceiling (we just painted it white, previously it was bone). We purposely kept it as light as we could to overcome the room feeling like a cave, but maybe we went a bit too far. In pictures it seems a bit more harsh than in person. Not sure if its because of lens distortion, or just me having wishful thinking. Now that we reset the color to white, maybe I will start messing my rendering software to see if we paint it a slightly darker shade if it makes things look a little less contrasty and drastic. Not sure if we want to go with a lighter purple (didn't want the room to scream purple), but maybe a greyish taupe-y color may be the bridge we need.

Regarding window treatments:

We don't really want them either, but we kind of need them as the room is too bright in the mornings. If the kids don't wake us at 6, we want to sleep longer! I didn't have a pic of the wall opposite the window, but its an even bigger set of French doors! We thought we would go with a silver shimmery curtain, with the rod hung higher than the top of the windows.

We did a lot of software rendering before buying or trying anything, since we were so gunshy with this style. It really helped, and I can show you what I am thinking re: the window treatments. Basically I want to hide as little of the window as possible when they are open.

(You can see the renders and real-life came out pretty close)

Here is a pic of the room to show what we started with (from the house listing -- has the old homeowners furniture). What a big difference!

Here is a bit more info of what we have pulled the trigger on but are waiting for delivery:

Chair (to replace red and gold chair in corner) -- the fabric we ordered is similar, but much more shimmery and a smidge more taupe like.

Ottoman (in same fabric as chair)

I think we picked out another mirror-y thing for the room, which we will probably split up and put on either size of the windows.

Still remaining:

- Window treatments (finalize and pick)

- Art and maybe more mirrors

- Small table for next to chair

- Bedding

- Bench

- Reading lamp for behind chair (maybe)

I also want to be careful and not make it too cluttered :)

Thanks again for your help, keep any ideas or critique coming, this style is new for us (our prior house was all decorated in a Tuscan style). Happy that we seem to not completely miss the mark!

@palimpsest, that does look cool -- I also played around a bit with some replacement (this doesn't include the doors or moldings yet though), but added the chair, artwork and more mirrors :)

just to add that I agree with painting the trim(namely, moldings), the doors, and the ceiling, respectively in satin or semi gloss version of the wall for the doors and trim, and a softer color for the ceiling

No, blue doesn't clash with purple:) They can be very cool together. Generally speaking, you can be very free in choosing your art..or small accents..it's like flowers, you know? can you really think of a bouquet that would horribly clash? no, right?

Should you decide that the ceiling is too bright, I would try a light gray on the ceiling, but pick it after you have put in the new carpet. :D - it would soften the contrasts in the room.

If the carpet you selected is as low-pile as it looks, you can toss an area rug on it without issues.

I'm not sure I'd paint the doors and molding out. There is too much contrast there right now, but I don't think colormatching is quite right either.

I would only paint out the closet doors matching because of their close proximity to the bed and the asymmetry of the wall. I would not paint the window trim or room doors to match. Maybe the chair rail since it doesn't go with the glam scheme.

I really like the deep color you chose for the wall. We have a bit of this style in our home and it's always fun to see what direction people take.

I was going to suggest a nice silvery grey for the ceiling, with lavender undertones. A full length mirror could also work someplace. You might also consider one of the characteristic geometric patterns in a throw, pillow, ottoman or the curtains.

On the extreme side of the moulding issue, is you can embrace it and [add panel mouldings[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/portfolio-contemporary-dining-room-houston-phvw-vp~1164069).

Like Fori, I'm not sure I like the all-purple that Palimpsest mocked up. I was thinking a metallic silver for the chair rail and other trim.

I love this whole look! I just painted my dining room purple and used the same color for the chair rail but in high gloss. I love it.

@Gooster, @dainadel, @cawaps: I love the idea of painting the ceiling a metallic silver/shimmery color (as mentioned earlier, have a lot of silverleaf looking stuff in the room).

Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Does it look good? Is it super hard to make look good without costing a fortune? Silverleafing the ceiling is completely out of my budget!

Also, the additional box moldings look nice in your example. Something to consider and show the boss (we originally thought of doing that under the chair rail and leaving the whole section white -- but thought it wouldn't feel as bedroomy with the two tone)

@palimpsest: Thanks, you answered another question I had re: which moldings to not do! I'm not fully convinced on the (back) doors or chair rail yet, but definitely want to leave the windows :)

@Aprilneverends: The boss put the kibosh on the blue :( But the mock up I posted aboved with the white and gold abstract pic she doesn't mind :)

@TChat, this looks cool. Thanks, it really helped me visualize the different textures with the same color. Also cool colored room, the purple is sophisticated without looking like a teenagers room (what we were afraid of for ours!)

I wouldn't want the job, but I see some images online of wallpapering the ceiling in a silver metallic wallpaper. Maybe cut in squares (abstract, collage style) for ease of handling?

@Olychick: Looks cool, especially like the 2nd one. Maybe time for me to look at some wallpaper options :)

For the ceiling, I would consider doing two tones of lighter and darker (though not too dark) silver in a stencil of a glamourous pattern. It would really bring your Hollywood theme to life. Attached image is what I was picturing for the pattern. You can probably find metallic paint somewhere but it would be a lot of work. Worth it in the end though if you ask me!

And personally I think putting long, voluminous drapes in would only add to the glam feel. Painting the doors and chair rail...maybe not espically if you want to change the colors of the room one day. I think the white areas give the eye a place to breathe.

I was going to suggest painting the doors in the room black but I love pal's suggestion more! I also think silver drapes and ceiling would be lovely aswell. Nice follow through on a unique vision!

The reasoning for those doors only is that they are asymmetrical on the wall, and then there is a symmetrical arrangement between those two, but the whole arrangement is pushed to the right. The other trim could be white, or grey or silver.

@Sara Ho: Love that ceiling, but you are right, what a bear it must have been to make it :)

@roarah: thanks, am surprised how well reality matches the renders; but I do think it differs from our original vision (for the better). Originally we were going to do all shades of gray. She was set on all grays. We recently moved to this house, and one thing we did outside of our wheelhouse is paint the dining room dark dark dark blue (again, almost black...I believe its called "Midnight Blue"). Was definitely a risky choice for our taste, and in the end....we absolutely love it. Its so different than our prior houses shades of golds, reds and earth tones. We painted the kitchen and family room shades of green, and while they look nice, they don't give us that same feeling as the dining room. After seeing BM's color of the year (I think its called shadow or smoke or something), but its purple, we said -- how about something like the dining room, except purple vs blue, but darker and more mysterious than the one BM called out. So we found Galaxy, which is on the same card and a notch darker....We love it, and now it feels like our "new look" is shades of black (only 3 rooms, but that's a lot). FYI -- the master bath is "green-black". BM Dragon's Breath.

Here is an shot of the "blue black" dining room(I don't have any recent pics with the lighting, furniture or window treatments, but you can get the gist -- if there is interest I will take some shots with it completed)

And here is the "green black" master bath (behind one of the doors near the bed). We really want to redo a lot of the materials, but that is out of the budget for a while, adding the Dragon's breath paint may have bought us some time :)

I swear, we are not vampires....the rest of the rooms are light colored :)

Valspar make a brilliant metal paint or has shimmer you can add to paint. This may be away to get the wallpaper look on the ceiling. I also thought an alternative is use it on the doors to make them look like aged mirrors. It would bring in "more mirrors" and decrease the contrast of the white doors. (I have no decorating exp. just ideas)

I painted my bedroom ceiling an antique metallic gold color. The ceiling has whirls in it so it was a pain to paint, but I do love it. Since the ceiling is only 8 feet up, I was afraid of it lowering the room too much, but I think it really works well. It's been at least 10 years since i painted it so I cannot recall the paint I used-but I did get it at Home Depot-may have been a Martha Stewart color.

Your room is GORGEOUS. I love the colors. Oh, if you paint the ceiling, you can also paint the air register-we painted our black air return register in our hallway the same white as the ceiling and it just disappeared.
