I really like the table and chandelier pictured above for your space. Only, I would do something other than the parsons. In the first place, my eat in area is similar to yours and the parsons would be too bulky for how much space you have to work with. Also, I think its important that the chairs you go with have that french, diamond tuft to tie in with the design on the stools at your island.

Something like this with a darker wood frame. Or the Fallon dining chair that you are already considering.

Thanks Anne Dee, no worries about the fingerprint police, just the boss and myself and we are both kind of OCD. :) I wasn't thrilled with the studs either but I kind of liked the scrolled top.

Thanks Dottie, I had thoughts about space as well. Planning to order 4 chairs, but only keep 2-3 around the table and the other(s) out in the family room unless needed.

...And the plant stand will go away when I get space in either dining or living room.

What size is your table?

Base will take 36 - 42 inch glass top. I was leaning smaller side probably 38'.

What about something like this to bring the gold and black from your island pendants. Clean shape with texture. Also depends on your chairs but works well with the glass table and kitchen.

Thank you Jodie! Liking the table, looks clean lines, not feeling the lamp. Too many metals. I have large polished silver pulls + stainless appliances + brown bronzed pendants/counterstools. I'm already out of my decorating comfort zone. Plus I'm saving my gold for the living room my next project, maybe with a bit of glam.

Can you show a closer photo of your pendants? Kitchen back splash is very pretty.

Go for a lighter feel with the chairs. The table base should have very clean lines.

A Saarinen tulip table would be a knockout. In the trim, those a generally referred to as nailheads rather than studs.

Groveraxle you are my hero. Thank you. It will be tough for me to try to communicate my vision to the boss who's an engineer and likes traditional matchy-match, but pictures say it all. I'm leaning toward the second to last.

The pendants are kind of swirled shades of cream to light coffee. The granite is a bit of everything. There is cream, brown, pink, green, rust, copper, clear quartz. Very liquid and fluid and a lot of it.

I learned something new! Thank you jbtanyderi, I never knew the name of that table. I agree it would be a great option, but would go with nothing in our style. Granted, we don't have much style, but we are trying....I'll spare you the Amish country oak carved dining chairs...

Jerseygirl322 - I like your glass table choice. Where did you find it? Of the six chairs suggested by groveraxle, the fifth one down has my vote. White upholstery lightens the room, and the curve leg relates to both the table and bar stool legs.

Hi Algs - the table is Pier One (of all places) and including a 38" glass top comes to just over $200. I found a similar table at a higher end furniture store, that shall remain nameless, for $1,609.00. I can do a lot with $1,400.00. And that table had a smaller base to sit the glass top. Easier to tip the top and that's a bad thing with glass. Same reason I don't like pedestal tables - give me 4 legs on corners any day.

Yes, the 5th chairs are my fav. Off-white or cream, would like a nubby finish to add some texture. Nothing white in the room (kitchen sink, trim and crown molding excluded).

If doing the glass table and upholstered chairs, bring some color into the chairs: could be a fun pattern or a color that would go nicely with the darker wood cabinets, like turquoise, or plum or lime: the whole room is just so monotone... Brown, bronze and beige. Maybe add a zingy chandelier and/or pendent lights...

Is it just you and the boss who'll be eating at that table? Or will company sometimes join you? If the latter, you might think this crazy, but a lot of people aren't really fond of seeing other people's legs and laps while eating (or having theirs on view). Problem can be solved with a tablecloth for company if you really like that glass.

Also, just a personal thing but I think upholstery looks out of place in a kitchen. I would go for an area rug for texture (and think the floor could use an area rug anyway). But for chairs I'd go with a comfortable relaxed leather

Lynn - have been looking at chairs with a robin egg blue. Agree - a lot of beige :) As to pattern I am putting window treatment on the sliding doors.

Ital normally just us. I can relate - years ago he had a glass dining room table and I found it strange to see legs and feet. We also have the counter to eat at and for larger gatherings a formal dining room. Don't entertain much, couple holiday dinners each year, small dinner party, or a friend or neighbor pop in. Those leather chairs are gorgeous!

Update - hi Houzzers! I know I often wonder how a project turned out, came across my old post and wanted to fill you in. First thanks to all for the ideas, mock-ups, etc. I’m happy with end result. We ended up with table base from Pier 1, originally got a 38 inch glass top,deemed it too small and went back for the 42inch here. The chairs are also Pier 1. They are cream on cream, looks like a slugged or raw silk, bit of sheen to it, with scrolled raised plush for texture. They were returns, in perfect condition and we got them 1/2 price. All in table and 4 chairs less than $800, compared to the high end store (boss said they were snooty) where a similar table and chairs were about $4,000 ($600 a chair, $1,600 table). If someone spills wine on a chair at Thanksgiving, I won’t be $600 upset! Curtains are Bed Bath off the shelf, sage green loose weave with a bit of a silvery sheen. Insulating as the back of house gets full afternoon sun.
