Two islands?

Wondering how the two islands are used in this gorgeous kitchen. One, across from range, for prep? and the other for serving? Anyone have experience with two islands? I love the look, but I wondering about functionality.

The center island is used on a daily basis as a breakfast bar. The island to the right has a bench seat on the back side for their dining table. It is used for serving and as a buffet.
