Another old friend!

last modified: 9 years ago

Last night I went to my 2nd AV meeting and I loved it as much as the first one! Geeze the people are so nice and very helpful.

But I now will tell you about an old friend who came home with me. Happy Harold!!!!! Oh my! 2 beautiful leaves of him! What a walk down Memory Lane!!!!! Already got them started and have fingers crossed!!! And last month at my very first meeting another walk down Memory Lane when I was gifted with Chanticleer!!!!! Who is doing very well.

And how small is the world getting??? I will tell you. Remember I said I worked for a greenhouse that specialized in violets??? That, my friends, was waaaayyy back in the 1970's!!! Well, I made reference to something I learned back then at a greenhouse I worked at and the two ladies on my right used to go there also! They knew about it!!!! They knew my boss and the whole 9 yards!!! Oh my and the world gets smaller all the time! Well, as long as there is still room for my violets,,,,I am good with it! Rosie

PS. I had a great time!,,,Can't wait for the next meeting!

So glad you enjoyed it Rosie. I dont have a club here but I was thinking since I have so many suckers I was gonna try and get more people interested in violets by gifting them a plant with instructions on care .

I find that people shy away from them because they dont understand how to keep them alive here, but I have figured them out thanks to you guys .

I placed a few leaves of music box dancer to root and i swear i gave away two leaves with about three suckers each and the three leaves remaining have produced about six to seven suckers each, thats a lot of plants to gift to friends. Velleta

    plants to be gifted.

Nice Velleta! Look at all of those babies. How cute is that! Are they started on wicks??? I can't really tell. It is too bad you aren't here in the states, I would happily share leaves! Rosie

Yes its really too bad I am not there .My Hubby is planning a mini family vacation for the summer, we want to visit my sis in America.

Yes ALL my plants are on wicks from the min I place a leaf to root to blooming and happy.

I gave up trying to grow them otherwise from the moment I realize when the person who came up with wicking had ME in mind :) Velleta

Awwwww,,,thanks Hyn !!! Such a nice thing to say!

Oh my,,,,I almost hyperventilated when I saw the 2 leaves of Happy Harold. Oh and I forgot to mention I also bought a leaf of Willodene, and 2 leaves of Buckeye Sentimental Reasons!

See, here is how this works in our group. Anyone can bring in leaves or babies of streps or violets (and I imagine other gesneriads but I will have to ask about that,,,,,I am still full of questions!!!) in baggies and they only cost $1.00 per baggie. The money goes to the club. WOW,,,,,what a great way to find treasures!!!! AND a good way to earn money for the group!

Sorry your group is so far away. Yes it is fun and I am so glad I joined!!! Rosie
