You are doing very well with your kumquat trees. I too am on a tight budget. Most of my trees are from seed. The Nagami Kumquat will grow at about 1/4 of the vigor of a tangerine tree or 1/3 that of a key lime. What is your zone and city.

Oh by the way, if anyone tells you that miracle grow cactus soil is to heavy and you need to transplant your trees into 5-1-1 mix, don't do it. Wait until your tree needs an up pot then change over to 5-1-1. I grow my trees in soil heavier than cactus mix and I have to use my "up-my-sleeve" tricks to get through. We can discuss these radical ideas when the time comes this fall.

What is 5-1-1 mix exactly (did I mention I'm a beginner at this?) I know from reading this forum that it's popular. I'm definitely going to get some next time I change pots.

Oh, and how long before I can expect fruit? I know it will take years, but what would you estimate?

David, Steve was very encouraging and he's right, they look pretty good to me so you must be doing something right. Either you know how to properly water, have been changing out the mix often, or using a small pot just big enough for the root ball. If you keep doing what you are doing great. I would of never known they were seedling. Great job.

The 5.1.1 mix will not limit you to pot size, watering and or fertilizer. So that is a great choice if you find you want to improve even more.

They look good. I have a seed-grown kumquat that was planted in Apr/May 2015 and it is smaller than yours. It has not grown with the same vigor as other citrus I've tried.
