Farmhouse/Apron Sink Question

Did you buy yours online or in-store? There is such a range of pricing out there (looking at 30" fireclay). I found one 30" from quality bath.com for $589. Overstock and Home Depot both have a 30" for around $650. This one below from Houzz is $679. Then the big name-brands (Rohl and Kohler and Herbeau) are all over $850 in-store and the Herbeau at that price is only 28" not 30".

Is it worth getting in-store more recognizable name brand or have you had luck saving $ with a non-known brand online?

The 30" Whitehaven is around $850. If you are working with your older cabinets, the "short apron" style will save money because you won't need to get a new sink base cabinet or spend money having your old cabinet resized / new doors made. If this is a new kitchen with new cabinets, order a farm sink base and get whatever you want, though the Whitehaven is much easier to install than other farm sinks because of the self facing apron front. Use the Whitehaven "tall apron" for a farm sink base.

I was doing a refresh and just saved for a few more months to get the sink. I decided I would have it longer than a fridge and it is one of the hardest working parts of the kitchen so I decided for me it was worth the price.

The Home Depot and Build.com have about the same price. I don't have a Home Depot nearby and they charge tax:)

I bought mine from build.com - a Kohler Whitehaven "short apron" style - can be installed on a standard sink base cabinet. I saw it in a plumb supply shop before I ordered it. It is cast iron - which I wanted because of concerns I had with fireclay chipping and crazing over time.

Thanks @jhmarie! Glad you had luck buying online! I checked and that one is selling for a little over $900 so I'll have to think on it as ideally I'd love to be happy with one of the $600 range ones. I never thought I'd spend so much time researching sinks :)

I think that in store pick up at Home Depot is the best option for homeowners...instead of buying online. You can check for damage before you take it. Several of my clients, instead of buying from me, chose to order online, then they received damage goods and had the hassle of sending the sink back. Unless you can be there to inspect at delivery and refuse the delivery, it is a risk. Maybe some online vendors offer free return shipping...but I would make sure.

Pay little more for the peace of mind and less hassle.

Thanks so much jhmarie! Ours is an addition so all new cabinets. And that article made me smile; it's very relatable ! I will definitely look more closely at the Whitehaven.

@piperett I ended up going to a few different stores to look at some sinks in person and decided that I did not like the look of cast iron at all, I much prefer the finish of the fireclay. I was all set to get the Shaws or Franke but then this Nantucket one on Houzz dropped in price to $575 so I decided to go for it after reading the reviews (on Houzz and on Wayfair where it is also sold and then searching on Instagram for #nantucketsinks). Fun fact, the author Jane Green has this same sink and posted about it on her page. I am a little OCD in case you can't tell.

Anyway it came in 2 days and I absolutely love it!! It's gorgeous and perfect and came with a grate and drain too.
