There were initially some issues with PEX that made the news. The crimping method for attaching the transitional fittings failed. That has since been resolved and the product is sound. The advantage to PEX is that it is less expensive for the materials and less expensive for the labor...making it a better answer to the rising costs of construction. We use PEX on most of our jobs and have had no problem with it.

You may want to consider Super Pex. It has thicker walls and more durable. We have had good luck with the product and I recently replumbed my entire house with it.
