Our pocket door from the master bedroom to the bath is solid Douglas fir that matches the rest of the doors in the house. It's been 11 years and it's never somehow gotten off track. I'm not sure how it even would? The wall has to be thicker and free of electrical or plumbing for the width of the door. Ours remains open 90% of the time so the sliding noise is rare.

invest in the best pocket door track and door guide that $$$ can buy. I recommend Hafele brand. :) If budget's tight, johnson hardware is not too bad either.

Pocket doors suck. The fiddly handles, the latches that rarely align, the pulling and pushing to open and close, the binding...give me a regular hinged door every day.

Buy a solid core door and get some nice hardware. Put an edge pull on the side and flush pull on the front and back. Baldwin make beautiful pulls with and without locks.
