I just bought an old house that was built in 1900. The basement door in the kitchen open out to the basement stairs, which my inspector said isn't safe. I can't have it open into kitchen because the cabinets are in the way. I was thinking of a sliding barn door but I don't think they would be air tight. I live in the northeast with brutal winters and I like my home to be energy efficient as possible. Is there a way I can keep the draft from coming through door of the basement? Maybe another type of sliding door?
