Seedlings don't come from the roots they come from seeds......the little plants around the plants are probably plantain (weeds).

How old/big are they? A mature blue angel is approx 6+ feet across and 7+ years old......

Blue Angel is one of the largest cultivars available. This plant is around 10 years old.

Ok. Mine are not quiet that big yet! lol I guess they're still babies themselves. Omg..did I make a mistake buying so many? I bought 20 one gallon plants!

Mine were divisions off mature plants.

Blue Angel gets really big but it takes a few years to get to that size. You're gonna need a lot of space for 20 of them.

Oh geez! I may be giving some away! I sure didn't realize I had gotten too many. I did plant most of them together! I'd estimate they're already about 2' tall! What have I done? I have a couple of other types that I'd like to see flourish not to mention my minis! I told you I was new! lol

20 of 'em eh....that would eventually require 565 square feet of garden......

I will say that my leaves are not much smaller than the one you're comparing to the lighter.

Well...I guess this gives me an excuse to buy more (after I get rid of some of these). An expensive lesson learned

5 to 7 years to maturity ...i saw one that was easily 8 feet wide and over 4 feet tall ...

see if your seller will trade them back for something else ...

if your going to stick around ... plz add your location to your name.. on the members page .. so we dont ask you all the time ...

and.. if you do stick around.. you will be fully enabled ...

seedlings come from seed ... and if the pods were not removed prior to ripening.. yes.. you could have seedlings that came in the pots you bought ... but they wont be the named variety ... as hosta do not come true from seed ...

i can not conceptualize.. how you have anything a foot to 1.5 feet away ... as it hasnt been root growing season yet.. and there is no way the roots are out there ... unless something happened when you unpotted and planted ...

I guess I sound like a moron asking such a question...my apologies. I will say that in that spot of the small seedlings (of whatever they were) I did have a clump of them there. I assume some leftover roots wouldn't do that??? I am new and did find it odd but am clear now. Thank you. I do plan on sticking around if that's ok. I will either give the hosta away or trade w/someone that's not got these..though I can bet they're not such a wanted hosta given their mature size.

If these are divisions off mature plants can you put a wad of them together and get one big plant out of it? I'm past my pay grade here, maybe some really seasoned Hosta grower can answer.
