Two questions

I have a spruce on standard budding and a pine that appears to have issues with girdling.I am willing to just toss the spruce but am invested emotionally in the pine.What should I do? Is the problem of the roots and automatic death sentence? I have followed you enough Ken to know that some just die.Ugg.Should I toss the spruce now? What about this pine I love?

don't worry about the root , it knows where to go

I don't see the problem with the pine tree. The trunk swells at the base like because its a grafted tree

I agree with Todd, the parviflora looks fine and normal. But I would toss that high graft spruce.

Should I cover the exposed root of the pine or just let it wander above ground?

Probably grafted on Pinus wallichiana, it's a stronger rootstock than Pinus parviflora

i would dump the standard plant.. just because its on a standard .. lol..otherwise.. i cant see whats going on in the pic ...

we are concerned when the root flare is too deep ... i dont really care if its too high ... and surely that plant doesnt care ...
