Help Staging Bedroom for Photos

Need some help staging this bedroom. I really struggle with furniture selection and placement, especially in a small room. Dimensions are about 11'x12'. Note, it's being re-painted this week. Color will be a little bit darker than what's on there now; more of a light cream color than eggshell white. I have several accent pieces that can be added/replace other things in there currently.

Back story: Our house is going to go on the market soon. Divorce
situation, and I'm moving in 2 weeks. I'm focusing on staging this
bedroom now since I will be removing the bed when I move, and I at least
want to get some good photos for the realtor before I go.

Can you pull some artwork from other areas in the home? I've staged lots of homes and would do the following: 1) Remove rocking chair, chest of drawers, and chest under the window. There's too much furniture in there now. 2) Take the area rug and turn it horizontal under the bed. The rug should start about a foot from the side table. 3) Get some simple white/blue curtain panels and mount them on a rod above the window frame. 4) Pull some artwork from other areas of the house or purchase inexpensive new artwork and mount one where the chest of drawers used to be, and another above the bed headboard. Make sure your art pieces are not dinky. Go at least 40-45" in width, and 30"-45" in height.

You want the room to appear as large vs. small. I'd removed the rocker and the piece under the window. You might try your rug in the other direction if it's not too to large vs. vertical as it appears to go all the way to the head of the bed??? You want more to the left and right of the bed so as you step out you are on the carpet vs. having it all at the foot of the bed.

Something above the dresser a mirror or a simple piece of art.... I'd remove the lamp on it.

The piece under the window may look better at the foot of the bed vs. under the window vs. removing it if you can try that or take it out of the room.

Vistas covered it. Professional photos are worth the money.

Can the night stand go on the other side of the bed? Would be better not to have the two lamps together like that, and it makes the view from the door more open.

I'd just take some version of the first photo (maybe a bit farther into the room) to show the closet, and the last photo. Middle one will look crowded no matter how many pieces you take out of the room first. Art over the bed would be great, but if you don't have something right, just take the photos and move on. It shows ok.

Such great bones! In addition to what the above posters have said, any chance you could swap out the lighting for a ceiling fan? I go to countless open houses and can honestly say I've seen people ooh and ahh because of a simple ceiling fan install. Nutty, I know...Post pic's, can't wait to see the final choice!

    Wonderful suggestions--thanks!

I removed all the artwork/hangers to prepare for painting. I wasn't planning to put anything back up but since so many of you suggested, I will find a couple pieces to go back.

I will go ahead and move the wooden bin and chair to my storage unit; they are going with me anyway. Will definitely get that rug turned the other direction. Great info and appreciate the diagrams!

I have some smaller blue-white accent pieces I can add to the small chest in place of the lamp. I'll take photos with and without the chest and see what looks better. When I remove my bed (full size) a twin is going back in there so I may not do any art above the bed for photos.

I'll post some photos after everything is set. I'll be asking for help with a couple other rooms, too, once I get these painters out of my house! I have a master that is a *nightmare*.

My observation about staging is color coordination --- blue and white would probably work here. Your window is pretty bare. Open it if you have a great view. Put a bouquet (peonies are great and about to come into season, here, at least) below it, to give the impression of spring.

No clutter, which means no furniture, like that rocking chair that blocks other furniture or circulation.
