It is just normal environmental damage that can be caused by any number of things including wind, contact with a cage or even with much, hard rain, etc. It poses no threat to the plant.

The leaves show a bit of the puffiness associated with leaf oedema which usually develops after heavy rains (or over-watering) and those damaged leaf cells will often "zipper" or split as they swell and then begin to dry out.

If it hasn't been rainy then make sure you aren't over-watering.

Yes we had some hard rains. Also I had over watering issues when they were seedlings. Now the puffiness associated with leaf oedema; is that the leathery feeling some of the leaves have ?

It can be. As the tissue cells swell and rupture the leaf surface can develop a stiff, leathery feel. If severe eventually those leaf portions may turn brown and die.
