I know I need to buy stuff for this room-just not sure what. Also, not sure how to lay it out. Help!

So I shouldn't try for the purple before the table comes? It's a floor model. Won't have table for weeks.
I feel more confident about the purple working, even if it arrives before the coffee table. It has more in common with the coffee table than the gold does, so it is a better bet in that sense. Maybe see how you feel when you see it again tomorrow and see if you can get a deal on the price?

The gold bench is French, so I believe there is nothing wrong with the dip you see in the middle. That is classic French design. It is the French curve.

You can successfully use the gold bench if ....(the same saturation of yellow as the bench) is used in examples of - pillows and art. You would need to have the same brightness of gold, somewhere else repeated. The paler yellow in the rug will be fine even if you add strong gold elsewhere to carry the bench color.

The gold bench is a traditional design compared to your other contemporary furnishings. That's ok and makes the room eclectic and interesting. If you're not in love with the gold one don't buy it for the reason that it is less expensive than the purple one. Don't settle. If you like them equally, then decide what feels like you the most.

New wall idea: make 3 fabric wall hangings. Liiiiike, 50-55 wide each, by not sure how tall, maybe square? Problem is, I like really expensive fabrics...
    Niiiiice!
I'm loving the marimekko fabrics. Just not sure if its too crazy!

The bench from Bloomie is perfect. No not to much metal. It's contemporary your style. Color good too.

    Coffee table needs to go.
Buy what you like. Purple velvet is fun. And very Miami.
    The link didn't work.

Purple bench might be gone :(
Ordered a new table. Link above. Mitchell gold caffrey 45 square.

Buy silver glaze at Lowes. Put on with rag.
I like layout. But would put chairs next to each other no table where you have bench. Bench under windows. But not against wall pull out. New coffee table and done.

    Mirror is fine .

    Here it is $241.95, dimensions 16" H x 41" W x 18" D

It's on sale now, two day to go still. Joss & Main is a fun concept, they hold short lived sales, you get one email a day and I really like what I see. Different styles. Of course I have no experience with the quality, but I've heard good things.

Wow what a great thread. I am late to the party but enjoyed seeing your process and progress. Love all the choices you have made so far: the room arrangement, the rug, the purple bench and the coffee table. I thought you had the two paintings done by your friend for behind the sofa. I think with a floor lamp they will look great.
    Great job!

Kinda pissed because new rug came damaged again. Small stain and some orange marks on it. I'm
Going to see if they can give me
A discount, because the stains will be under the couch. Anyway, here it is with the bench. I'm thinking about getting a purple throw and returning the yellow one. Table comes next Sunday.
Wow. I love how the colors pop. I can't wait to see it with the coffee table. BTW I love how your daughter is always in the pictures, usually a blur.
Now I'm kinda worried the table with the light wood won't match. I hope it's ok. Bought it from outlet, so I can't send it back...

Nice job! I love it. Looks Great! Purple throw would look great. If you put the yellow throw on the bench, it will soften it's sharp lines? Maybe get one purple pllow for the sofa and that's all. Then on the wall, your art made by your friend. Looks wonderfu!! Love the pillows!

I think your table will be great once you add a few accessories on top.!
Bench is perfect. Sorry about the rug. Good idea to add some purple on the sofa.
I put the paintings in my dining room. Still unsure about wall. I'm going to order the west elm sunset throw for the sofa. Not sure i need 2 throws seeing as we are in Miami. It's freekin hot!!!
My good friends piece. Hmmmm. Marshmallows :)
Well... thát would be perfect on the wall behind the sofa :-D
  • 13 years ago
Not sure if its the right yellow tho.
The only thing that matters with art is... do you love it. How does it make you feel? And from a practical point of view... does it fit in your home (or garden) and does it fit your budget.
Don't think about if it will match your furniture or rug or pillows. It's not important.
And besides. You can mix different yellows.
Can't even really see the purple. Which is better? Purple or go back to the yellow one ?

Wow! This is a long thread! And while i have not taken the time to read all of the suggestions--my apologies nor your responses, again, I apologize, I did have my own impression of the floor plan and surprised not to see it as I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled (lol), I thought I'd share my thoughts with you.
Your two chairs are too small to be on your long wall of windows. I'd move the couch over in front of that long wall and get low modern (it's modern that's your style choice, yes?) end tables with lamps for each end.
I'd move your credenza back to the original wall in your first pictures, as it can be a nice buffet and bar for entertaining, as it's in good proximity to your dining room.
I'd move your two chairs AND that narrow tall cabinet, that has been stuck on that short wall in all of these pictures, over to the wall that, I'm guessing, is a kitchen wall, the wall that has the dining room entrance, and with perhaps a floor lamp, create a nice conversation/reading area for two.
I'd next suggest purchasing a low, modern loveseat, in a similar style to your couch to place in front of the credenza, allowing for credenza access.
I do like the idea of the large mirror lengthwise above that credenza.
Now enter your room( from both the front entry and the dining room) and you have an open traffic, but with two distinct conversation areas in a harmonic scale and proportion.

I like the purple bench with yellow accents in the rest of the room. Lay the yellow throw across one corner of it. Perfect!

You can use different yellows, as 'carolins' said. Need a brighter purple pillow on the sofa with the other four pillows. The purples don't have to match either.

Table just came. Damaged. Sending it back.

You have the darned-est time being shipped things that are damaged! The size and shape of the table are great, though. I also love the yellow throw on your beautiful bench and the layout of the room is just right.

There are some really nice suggestions here. Try some fabulous lighting to tie it all together. The attached custom art lighting could be amazing. www. tjferrie.com

Love what you did and your choices, absolutely love that bench!! Maybe repeat purple with pillow/s on the sofa as I posted prior. Repetition of color is key.
