Hummingbird Garden

I was at work and found a banana peel with fruit flies on it. I stuck it in an empty sandwich bag, brought it home. I put it on a small saucer between my potted Cupheas. When the hummers came in for some nectar, they can get a little protein snack as well.

Have you seen them eat them? I have supplied sources for fruit flies, our hummers never seem interested in catching those. For some reason they prefer working about 6" above our tiny patch of lawn, darting in zigzags to catch something that is too small for me to see.

They noticed them, but I put it in back of the potted Cupheas, I could not actually observe if they were eating them...I'll have to put it in front next time.
