@jck910 and @Elizabeth Z yes; we are right in the middle of changing out the windows, which is why they are all different, haha. The lower right is what they will all be (simple single pane). And landscaping is definitely on the priority list... just haven't gifts. There quite yet since we just moved in and there are quite a few pressing projects. I think you've got some shingle style going on? Did shingle style ever use shutters? I couldn't say.

Many times people feel they should "add" to make it better, when removing or diminishing could work best. Here, I'd paint the vertical white gutters to match the house as well as the horizontal white trim just below the window that runs along the porch area. (They distract from the great bones your home has, as it does have nice character. It just has a little much going on at the moment.) Then remove the planter box in the grass on the right side of the picture. To add, think about changing out the metal railing for a nicely designed white one and perhaps adding a column to the left side of the porch to anchor, balance. and match the two sides. On top of these two short columns, perhaps a stone "ball" or "obelisk" shaped finial would add visual interest and accent the home subtly. In order to keep from writing a book here, you could always p.m. me to continue the conversation. Enjoy your new home. It will look marvelous when you're done, patience is key.

Shutters would look nice on the far right windows but would throw off the window(s) placement on the left. Instead of shutters I would invest in landscaping. The right/bottom window looks like it needs something. However, I think some nice bushes (possibly a vine) would alleviate the visual emptiness or "missing something" feeling. I would also focus on widening the front walkway.

The house needs windows that match, not 4 different types. The upper left window is too big -- looks like it is squeezed in under the small gable above.

It needs landscaping -- badly.

And the garage needs painting dark -- especially the door, so the eye focuses on the house.
