Bamboo will take over!

There is good bamboo and EVIL bamboo. Plant the evil stuff and your neighbors will never speak to you again.

Just kidding. Sort of. There are types of bamboo that do not spread. Typically bamboo has runners which if planted in the backyard, will pop up in the front yard. And don't even get me started on how to stop it. It involves a bobcat, concrete and steel.

If you don't want a water fountain, try an espalier against the wall. You can do it with any woody plant. Also, outdoor art would look good if you want care-free maintenance. Also check gardening forums in your zone to see what works well in containers.

I love bamboo. Clumping bamboo will not spread. Yukkas are also sun tolerant. What about an architectural screen/s on the wall?

How about a wall mounted decorative piece on the wall behind the table and chairs? Purchase or make planter boxes filling with what ever kind of plant or flowers available in your area and that you like best :-)
