Help me identify this forest floor plant (Vermont)

Anyone have any idea what this may be? It was found in a Southern Vermont mixed Hemlock/Birch forest on a steep hill under full shade. I am not sure it's a groundcover, but there were several growing close together in a potentially ground-covering manner.

Goodyera pubescens a lovely little orchid. Lucky you to see it. It grows here as well.

I would never have guessed this to be an orchid! Awesome, I'll have to go revisit the site in a week or two and see if it has bloomed. Any idea how long between the stage it is in here and when it can be expected to bloom?

It blooms for 3-4 weeks any time between July and September. This is a young one and it could be a few years before it blooms. It is a fabulous little plant and I would visit the site often. Perhaps if you look around the area you will find a more mature specimen.
