What is the age and style of your home? Can you post an exterior pic?

I used a douglas fir from Simpson Door on our craftsman and sealed it with marine grade poly. Unfortunately we didn't get to stay in that house long enough to see how well it held up in detail, but driving by it still looks good.

I could have written much of the previous post. We have a Simpson door, also sealed with marine grade poly. We still live in our house, so we've now that the Simpson door for 9 years. No complaints at all.

Mahogany would be more stable than any softwood. Of doors I've built, spanish cedar is not as ideal for full sun/weather exposure. On a shaded porch it's great. It shrinks/swells much more than mahog.
