What a sweet little picture. I can see why you'd want it.

Love it!

A sewing friend, who is teaching me to rewire, deep clean, and repair old machines, looked at the picture and asked "Why is she on the wrong side of the machine?"

Ahhh man, practicality has to rear its over-thinking head! LOL

I had not even noticed the orientation until he said that.

I came up with a reason! She was overwhelmed with the tangled mess, got up from the machine, and was showing her grandmother the problems - who is going to sit in front of the machine and fix them.

Now I can still try to find the print for my room!

I love the twisted braids along her forehead and the hint of lace at the neckline of her blouse. The illustrator is in Belgium, so I thought of all the oledworld lace to be found there.

I think she's on the back side watching.

Lovely. Good point about artistic license; otherwise the young girl would obstruct our view of the sewing machine. Or, it could be that her tangled threads are the result of her attempting to operate the machine from the wrong side.

I once let a primary school friend take a turn working on my four-needle mitten/s. She knit about eight rounds, but she had a very tight hand (as she had with penmanship), and her knitting on size 4 needles looked like it was worked on size 1 needles. Further adding to the stockinette texture was the fact that she was a southpaw -- somehow she'd picked up the yarn and began knitting these pinched stitches form left to right, giving them a peculiar twist. Nowadays that might be used as a design element. In light Nile Green wool yarn, it really stood out.

She has arrived!

The lithograph arrived safe and sound, in pristine condition, from Belgium yesterday. It's even more vibrant and beautiful in person.

The print was wrapped in tissue and protected between two sheets of stiff cardboard, which were sandwiched between two more sheets of even stiffer cardboard.

I can hardly wait to take The Little Seamstress into town for mats and framing.

The artist was commissioned to illustrate a Belgium (or French?) edition of the children's classic, Peter Pan. This print is of Wendy, sewing for the Lost Boys. I'd love to find a copy of that edition of the book.

Does anyone have suggestions for matting this piece?

That is such a precious piece of art -- and even more special to know it was part of Peter Pan? A bonus! I love old illustrations and advertisements for their charm. Is there a date on this?

It's new.

The Belgium (or French?) company just recently published a newly illustrated edition of the Peter Pan book.

Of course, there are many more charming illustrations in it by Mr. Gréban, but I had to have this one in my sewing room.

I purchased the print through a European site, DaWanda, which seems to be very similar to Etsy!

I had to get help from my French-fluent former US Air Force-era roommate, and a French-speaking friend here, to navigate the purchasing and payment (through PayPal, easy-peasey!)

He's a very young writer/illustrator. His drawings tug at my heart. I am on no way connected to his company or DaWanda. I simply love children's literature and illustrations.
