Floor color with light grey wall paint?

Hello everyone,

Soon I will live on my own and have my own place. I really LOVE light grey paint on the walls. I love how much contrast it creates with white furniture and white-border picture frames.

Here are three examples of light grey wall paint that I really like:

My question is: What color should I choose for my floor? I both like laminate and carpeting.

If I use a light color laminate (such as http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/20284903/) would my house be too light? Of course with this color laminate I think I should go for a darker colored sofa?

I don't really feel brown/wood color laminate. I don't think it will look well in combination with the light grey wall paint.

I think a dark color laminate/carpeting can look good as well (for example http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/30336322/).

Anyone can give me some pro advice on this? Any extra tips for the style above are greatly appreciated!

Steven, that light grey wall would look fantastic with the dark colored laminate or tile floor (like Monocibec ceramica modern in black) and if you like white furniture the contrast will be great! A light colored floor paired with the walls and white furniture would look quite monochromatic. Be sure to add a pop of color here or there with accent pieces in red for a more classic look or a sage green for a complement to the neutrality of the grey!

Hey Steven, Your inspiration images are all very light spaces so it seems to me that you are attracted to that airy, ethereal look. I'd go with the light floor and add some dark accents as they have done with the pillows in the first inspiration image. To be fair, the dark floor would look good, too but, it won't stand out from the crowd like the light floor would.

Thanks so much, both of you guys, for your advice! I really like what you said, Design Inside - Chicago, about going with the light floor and adding dark accents! I'm going for that idea.

I've also been thinking about painting one of the four walls in the living room a 'charcoal' color. I will paint the wall where my white sofa will stand in front of. With regard to wood floor color, to work with gray you want to be sure to avoid anything with red, yellow or orange undertones. You want a true brown (whichever light or darkness you choose). This will narrow your choices quite a bit, but in my opinion that's a good thing because you aren't as overwhelmed by the options.

We are building new construction and have chosen Sherwin Williams colonnade gray for our wall color (very similar to revere pewter but does not have the green undertone) and here is a board with our chosen floor color. It is from Raskin and it is a luxury vinyl plank, color Jackson Hill.
