Container transplant help

We transplanted 3 days ago from a container. The rose was doing beautifully in the container. Big healthy blooms. The clay soil that was in the ground where I was puttung the rose held a previous bush last year that died shortly after planting so I wanted to clear out any potential disease. I backfilled the hole with a mixture of topsoil and well rotted manure. I watered the hole well and was able to gently remove the rose as to not disturb the root ball. We have watered well every day since. The bush is wilting now. We have just had two 90 plus degree days while the days prior were about 20 degrees cooler, so Im not sure if its that.

The soil feels moist several inches down but the leaves feel dry and crispy on the edges. I dont want to overwater or underwater. Are there any other ways to tell if the plant is too dry or too wet before its too late? The soil under the topsoil is clay and I dont want to waterlog it.
