Mine are in recovery mode after a hailstorm about a month ago. Such a sad sight. :(

Bad thing to have happened to such beautiful hostas! So sorry! We also had some hail (not the norm in my area) but it was small and didn't last long. I don't think it damaged anything which seems like a miracle. Makes me sad to see the damage on yours. Thank goodness hostas are so resilient.

My sympathies. Why can't the hail hold off until the end of August when we don't care as much?

I feel your pain. Hail is the one weather phenomenon for which there is no preparation. It's so devastating. These are from May 08 this year.

They look a lot better now but it's been a whole month for them to come back.

I recommend a good dousing of kelp in a sprayer.

The hail was small, the time was short,the storm was only 45 minutes, what confused me the most is mine are all under HUGE 80 yr old oaks, fully leafed out at this point in time, which is why in 18 years this is the first time this has happened--I always assumed. How did the hail even get to the ground!? Ho hum. This is how this goes. Always something. I have my new easy to use ammonia sprayer and was soooo ready to wage slug wars this year and now I get to "save" what from the holes???

Oh, these pics make me want to cry. We have certainly BTDT, fortunately it's been almost 10 years (knock on wood).

arcy... I'm in Anoka County. I assume you are in the area, as well, since you mentioned you had hail on Sunday?

All the green you see around that first picture are leaves from my peach tree which is the only shade my backyard has. It's the whole reason I am able to have a hosta garden in the back. It lost about half its leaves. Everything there will get more sun this year because I don't think those leaves regenerate. I just hope we don't get any more hail this year. But one never knows.

So sad and disappointing. I hope they sprout new leaves this summer.

Definitely a hosta nightmare! So disappointing : (
