Lighting advice needed!

last modified: 9 years ago

I just moved to a new house and need to get some lights set up for my babies. I currently have an Erligpowht 45W LED board that, at the time, hung probably.... 3ft above them? We mounted it to the bottom of a shelf that was above my dresser.

Anyway, at my new place, I have no such dresser to put my plants on. So I got a stair style bookshelf to put them on in my kitchen. My thought was to place the plants at the fronts of the shelves and mount my old light above the shelf but the shelves weren't as staggered as I'd hoped so the light wouldn't really hit the lower shelves at all. I'm hoping to find something I can mount to the underside of the individual shelves to give each light.

I saw these LVJING 10w strips but I don't know if they'll be bright enough. The lights will only be several inches from each plant so I'm concerned about the lights being too close.. Any thoughts? I'm open to suggestions. I really have nowhere else to put my plants. I'm most concerned about having light for my violets, although I do have other plants.

(also, idk if it's worth mentioning, but my violets are all semi-minis and minis, so they're not touching the top of the shelf above them at all.)
